The Dutch Design Hotel Artemis is a good budget option in Amsterdam, with free Wi-Fi, a quiet setting and its own underground parking. Surrounded by offices, it’s also a great pick for visiting business travellers. The area is quite suburban, but it isn’t that far from the sights -- guests can catch the number 145 bus from right behind the hotel or the nearby number 2 tram, which both run straight into the heart of the city in 30 minutes. Make sure you purchase a GVB card for the best value travel on city buses, trams and metros. They are available for 1-7 days.
The hotel showcases Dutch design, with furniture by contemporary Dutch designers throughout the building. Themed exhibitions are staged in the lobby on a continuous basis, changing every three months, and the restaurant devises a 3-course menu to match each exhibition.
Other than the themed menu, the restaurant also serves hearty sandwiches, soups and king-size salads at lunch, and for dinner there’s a range of international dishes, such as chicken satay, roasted rack of lamb or vegetable curry -- all served until 10pm. There’s also a terrace on the waterfront for al fresco drinks and dining, and there are outdoor heaters for use all year round. In the mornings, choose from a Dutch-style buffet breakfast, with juices, baked goods and some hot options. Guests can also make use of the on-site fitness room and underground parking is available (extra charge applies).
Rooms are well dressed, with floor-to-ceiling windows, atmospheric lighting and funky designer chairs in electric blue. Executive and Business rooms offer extra space and a free mini bar. There are also ice dispensers and shoe-cleaning machines by the lifts.
