Fixed on the southern end of the Strip, the enormous 30-story glass pyramid of the Luxor Hotel and Casino is hard to miss, and with a large pool area including iced aromatherapy towels and shady cabanas, permanent live shows, and an expansive 120,000-square-foot casino, this Sin City icon is a good balance of value and amenities.

Guests here are in for a bustling and loud Vegas experience. There is a free monorail that connects to neighboring Mandalay Bay and Excalibur, making for easy exploration of the immediate area. At night, visitors will have no trouble getting their bearings: The Luxor Sky Beam emits the world's strongest beam of light stretching high into the sky from the pyramid's peak.

Inside, the kitschy Pyramid rooms are reached via futuristic angled elevators, and the slanted room windows offer great views of the Strip. For more traditional accommodations, book a newly renovated room in the Tower wing next door. The hotel’s restaurants serve cuisine from every corner of the globe from budget-friendly buffets to an upscale sushi spot and steakhouse.

Room looked rough around the edges. Specifically the brass shower had been repaired with several times with caulk and not done well. Several cracked tiles In the bathroom . There was only a view of the pyramid . Vendors in the Luxor shops verbally yelled at You every time we walked by and one even yelled at me .

The safe wasn't open and the telephone in the room wasn't operable. I put in a call to maintenance because I was carrying things that needed to be locked up and they never arrived.

I have trouble walking and no matter what you wanted to do, even if it was to get a cup of coffee, we had to walk a HUGE distance, the way the place is laid out, there is no short cuts ANYWHERE. To walk from the parking garage to the front desk you had to walk across the entire casino plus about a 100 yard walk from the nearest point in the garage. Everything was difficult to get to. Then there is the price of food and beverage, I think $9.00 for a bottle of domestic beer and $9.00 for a hot dog is a little beyond reasonable. We had a $1.50 hot dog at Costco that was much better. Even cheaper motels have coffee makers and minifridges in the rooms. the room itself was nice enough but it just wasn't convenient. I guess my memory of Las Vegas hotels when food was very inexpensive, drinks were some time even free and you didn't have to park half a mile away and pay to do so.
