"Had a great stay, but just have a couple of niggles. The service in the restaurant on the first night was poor (unattentive and slow). We sat down at 8:15 and did not finish until 10:40. The second night was much better. One of the radiators in our bedroom and the one in the bathroom needed bleeding as no heat was emanating from the top. I reported this to the reception but while one of the radiato in the bedroom was sorted, the one in the bathroom wasn't. Our room wasn't cleaned on the second day."

Overview

Commanding sweeping views of Fowey's river estuary and harbour, this deluxe family-friendly hotel on the Cornish coast was reputedly the inspiration for Toad Hall in The Wind in the Willows.

Facilities at Fowey Hall include a 12-metre indoor heated swimming pool, an outdoor hot tub and a spa offering a range of pampering treatments. You can wander through the gardens and take in the sea views, or head to one of the nearby beaches for a stroll. There are excellent services for families at this hotel, including a crèche (£16 for two hours), a games room and a DVD library.

The restaurant serves hearty Cornish fare made using seasonal, local ingredients, so expect a menu filled with fresh seafood. The breakfast spread includes a buffet of cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, pastries and muffins. While there is no bar, the Snug proves a lovely spot for an aperitif.

Standard Double Rooms are in the main house: they are classic in style and ideal for couples. The 12 rooms in the Garden Wing are connected to the main house and all have garden and estuary views. Rooms in the courtyard are a minute's walk from the main house. Dogs are allowed in some rooms for £15 a night -- let the hotel know in advance if you plan on bringing your pet.

We have also negotiated a spa day with cream tea for £49 per person, saving 47% on the regular rates.

Always excellent service and food exceptional.

Everything perfect except the jacuzzi could do with upgrading. Spa experience we never do but additional sauna d or steam rooms etc would really cap it off.

Absolutely lovely experience. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely room, fantastic food and overall relaxing vibe- highlight was sitting peacefully in an outdoor hot tub looking out to sea with a rainbow filled sky! We were so grateful for the wonderful childcare that was provided to enable us (as exhausted parents!) to have some quality restorative time together, and the children absolutely loved their breakfast club opportunity and the toys in the den. Cant wait to go back!

Don’t know if we got room upgrade- weren’t advised. Disappointed to find an open jar with one rather second hand looking biscuit on the tea tray.

Fabulous location with excellent facilities. The food was amazing and the staff were helpful, charming and nothing was too trouble for them. The open log fires in the reception area added to the lovely atmosphere and ambience.
