"Filled with dramatic, eye-catching details” -- New York Magazine

Why We Love It

  • Top-rated tourist sites are right outside -- it’s only a few blocks to Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building
  • Times Square is about 10 blocks north, and Chelsea is just a few blocks south
  • The Herald Square neighborhood has heaps of shopping -- many popular and affordable clothing brands have their biggest stores here

In lower west midtown, a neighborhood that's popular with tourists merges with a neighborhood that's popular with locals, and this hotel is right where they meet. If you’re in town to see the major sights, you’ll find them along the streets just north of you: Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and the Empire State Building are all within five blocks. Times Square is about 10 blocks north -- you can see it glowing straight up Seventh Avenue. In the Herald Square area, many fast-fashion and affordable clothing companies have opened some of their largest stores.

If you’re seeking a quieter pace along the lines of how locals live, head south of the hotel to the Chelsea neighborhood. A district that was home to an artistic fringe decades ago is now affluent with families and professionals. There are stylish restaurants and cozy home shops, as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology and Upright Citizens Brigade improv comedy theater.

Rooms have beamed ceilings and oversize monochromatic floral murals. Some have sofas and work areas, and studios and suites have sleek kitchenettes.

Room didn’t have a clean feeling, extremely old and loud AC so we weren’t able to use it while sleeping and the air was extremely stuffed. Bathroom is very out-dated and pretty ran down. During checking we were advised that there was a room ready for us and we agreed to check in but then right away were advised that it’s extra $50 for early check in but they would drop it to $25. What kind of customer service is that? We didn’t even ask for early check in , just luggage drop off.

The rooms are bigger than any I've seen in NYC especially for the money. We had 2 issues, the room was very hot and there didn't seem to be any controls. I called the hotel and it was fixed right away. The second issue was that we had no shower water pressure on the 15ht floor. This was more serious an issue; we didn't call to see if it could be fixed easily as we had to leave but I'm guessing not. Other than that the location, price and room were great.

I enjoyed the hospitality of the front desk and the central location of the hotel for accessing the sites of New York City. We could walk to most of the sites. It was a terrific one week stay!
Other Comments
The hotel was great for our stay. However, I am not sure that the front desk needs to "upsell" more expensive rooms when you initially register for your stay. This happened with both ourselves and another couple. Further, our fridge was not operating when we arrived. After further investigation I discovered that it was unplugged. It worked initially, after being plugged in, but then did not a day later. I appreciated having an iron and ironing board and having access to a balcony was a nice feature despite the limited view. One day our room was not done up. Overall we received good value for our money.

after complaining and agreeing to a surcharge of $30/night plus increased taxes, the room , and bathroom were satisfactory. But travelzoo, or the hotel mislead me about what (deluxe double) means. And the hotel insisting I booked a standard room was "fake news"
Other Comments
I booked a deluxe double. Hotel (Stephen) insisted i booked a standard room. They put us in a miserable room...and only by agreeing to pay $30/night ($90) more were we transferred to a studio...which could be classified as deluxe double. Charges were $925.32...or $103.27 more than Travelzoo's "total price".( including nonsense charges (occupancy tax,NYS development tax, and upgrade charge. I feel ripped off.

Location and kitchenette with refrigerator
Other Comments
The rooms are in need of a serious upgrade, the bathroom is tiny even by NY standards and lots of street noise 24/7 especially blaring sirens being next to a fire station.
