The Moxy Times Square is a hip, stylish boutique hotel with a "buzzy and playful" vibe (Fodor's) and a great location, in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Built into a 110-year-old building that was fully refurbished before opening in 2017, the hotel "[blends] savvy urban design with fun millennial flavor" (Oyster.com) thanks to touches like the neon pink sign that greets all guests and on-site amenities like a speakeasy-style barber shop and tattoo parlor.

Guest rooms, starting at 200 square feet, are a little on the small side, even for New York, but come packed with tech-friendly extras like flat-screen TVs with streaming capabilities, USB ports a-plenty for powering your devices and free high-speed Wi-Fi. There's also plush bedding, with 300-thread-count linens, rainfall showers and a free daily coffee for each guest at Bar Moxy in the lobby.

Dining options are managed by the city's famous Tao Group and run the gamut from fresh seafood, at Legasea; 24-hour breakfast service, at Egghead; healthy grab-and-go snacks (and soft serve ice cream), at The Pickup; or drinks, at the hotel's famous Magic Hour rooftop cocktail lounge. This urban amusement park on the 18th floor features a rotating carousel and a miniature golf course — and a wide variety of craft cocktails, of course.

Hotel seems very minimalist and geared to young people. For that it’s great. For us older people used to a few perks, maybe not so good. I couldn’t mail a postcard there! We knew the room would be small (and it’s very cleaver in it’s use of space) but our room was stifling hot and never cooled down even though it was severe cold outside! We called maintenance and a very nice young man came to help but the a/c condenser just wouldn’t kick on. Only the fan. So we opened our window as much as we could (1-2”) and went to sleep to the sounds of the street and rooftop disco every night! It was still hot and we never even used a sheet even though it was in the teens outside!

Nice enough for the price.

The booking stated that we had a $50 food and beverage credit, but it wasn't applied when we bought food from one of the on-site restaurants. I've since reached out to your customer support team about this.

Hotel itself was great!! The room was clean. Only a few complaints. Front desk employees could be more friendly and welcoming. Both guys that helped us were pretty rude and made us feel like we were bothering them. Also, a women from housekeeping unlocked our door and came into our room, without knocking, despite the fact that we had the hanger on the door saying no service. It was awkward and weird. Outside of those few things we had a good stay. Would stay at a Moxy again.

The hotel is very quirky, in a good way. Humorous and interesting touches all over from the table and chairs hanging on the wall to the classic NY coffee cups in the bathroom. Every staff from JJ outside to Andy the night manager and those at the front desk were friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Location is perfect for plays. They also had a tour you could take of the Flat Iron district through Like a Local tours. By staying at the hotel a $56 per person tour was free. That is an awesome perk and the tour was fantastic. I will definitely look to stay here again.

Staff was excellent! Room was tight because of bed next to wall. This is a hipster hotel for sure. Location excellent and an experience for 71 yr olds. Yes I’d recommend this especially because of the outstanding staff.

Moxy Times Sq - is not in Times Square - it's one block from Macys. should be called Moxy Herald Square. We were hoping to stay in actual Times Square area. Egghead completely closed. Several local bakeries close by.

The location in Mid-town was very convenient to Broadway and other major NYC attractions, and the hotel design was fun and clever. We also enjoyed the well-run luggage storage and having access to The Stash for basic needs. While the room was very tiny and I had to climb over my husband to get in and out of bed, I understood that it was small when booking and believe that it was still very good value for the money.

A big problem with the TravelZoo promotion. I selected the Moxy in part for its location and in part because of the $50 credit for the Magic Hour rooftop bar brunch. The details of the promotion clearly listed Magic Hour as one of the properties at the Moxy where the credit could be used. We chose that weekend to celebrate our 30th anniversary b/c it was restaurant week, and I had booked other NYC restaurants for dinner. When we showed up at Magic Hour brunch and tried to use our credit, no one at the restaurant was familiar with the TravelZoo deal, and three employees we spoke to about it, including a manager, made us feel as if we were asking for something ridiculous b/c "Magic Hour was not owned by the Moxy and they were not honoring credits." So embarrassed, we left. Making matters worse, my husband has cancer - shortness of breath and neuropathy in his feet - so I did not appreciate dragging him up to Magic Hour for what I thought was going to be a fun brunch for that kind of a reception. We went back to Moxy and asked two of their employees about the TravelZoo package and they said 1) Magic Hour had separate management and so the credit was no good there (despite there being a large sign in their lobby promoting THEIR Magic Hour Rooftop Brunch as well as promoting it on the Moxy voicemail options as one of THEIR restaurants), 2) their Egghead restaurant was not open at all, and their other two restaurants were only open for dinner (so basically the certificate was useless to us.) Since we had a 2pm Broadway show, we wasted a critical hour with this mess. We had to scramble to find somewhere else to eat on SA in the Theater District. All in all, it was infuriating and exhausting for my husband, and put a big damper on what should have been a wonderful afternoon. My husband called TravelZoo and Heather there sent us a note that we could now use the credit at Magic Hour for brunch the next day (but we had other restaurants booked and after the reception there I had no desire to go back.) The Moxy ended up giving us a $50 room credit which was a fair resolution, and Heather at TZ was a pleasure but someone at either Moxy and/or TravelZoo did not get the details of the offer correct and the young Moxy staff - across the board was clueless. In short, whoever put this deal together really bungled it up and should pay more attention to detail in the future.
