Why We Love This Hotel

  • This Grade II-listed Art Deco hotel is right on the seafront promenade, with views of Morecambe Bay and, on a clear day, the fells of the South Lakes
  • The AA-Rosette-awarded Sun Terrace Resturant offers magnificent sea views through floor-to-ceiling windows and serves modern Lancashire cuisine
  • Former guests include Shirley Bassey, the Rolling Stones and George Formby
  • The city of Lancaster with its medieval castle and Georgian architecture is 20 minutes away by car, while the South Lakes are a 40-minute drive away

"Beautiful hotel and lovely rooms. Staff very pleasant. Only downside was the meal in the Rotunda Bar. myself and my friend ordered the steak special which was nothing more than a minute steak and was served cold. We were given a free drink."

This landmark hotel with views over Morecambe Bay first opened in the 1930s, and after careful restoration it now welcomes guests looking for a stylish seaside stay -- the illustrious list of former residents includes Shirley Bassey, the Rolling Stones and George Formby. Designed by British architect Oliver Hill, it is built in the Streamline Moderne style of Art Deco, with a curved white facade and stylish central tower and rotunda, and carvings by Eric Gill.

The beach is on the doorstep, and you can take an easy stroll to the town centre's shops and bars along the promenade. The Platform live entertainment venue is just behind the hotel, while Happy Mount Park with its scenic pathways, Japanese garden, mini golf and bowling green is five minutes' drive away.

Nearby Lancaster offers a pleasant day out and can be reached in around 20 minutes by car or train. Its medieval castle is described by English Heritage as the "Northwest's most important historic and archaeological monument". The city is known for its attractive Georgian architecture, while the Butterfly House and the Ashton Memorial in the 54-acre Williamson Park are also worth a visit. The South Lakes, including the pretty village of Lakeside and bustling Bowness-on-Windermere, is around 40 minutes' drive away.

The Sun Terrace is an AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant boasting views over the bay through its floor-to-ceiling windows. You can sample a variety of cocktails and drinks in the Ravilious Rotunda Bar. Guests can use The Sandpiper Club health and spa facilities at Lancaster House, the hotel's sister property, which is 25 minutes' drive away near Lancaster.

The exterior of the Hotel could do with a coat of paint.

Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus our booking was cancelled 48hrs prior to going. Disappointing but understandable. Been to the Midland for lunch on other occasions & loved it.

Overall it was excellent. The staff, particularly are well worth a mention as they were all young-friendly,relaxed and professional. The restaurant was excellent although the service on two of our nights was slow. It was also slow on our last day at breakfast when we both ordered two fried eggs on toast -one came and thr other came about 10 minutes later-why??

One negative-you had to make your own toast from the buffet table. This is OK if you're having toast and marmalade etc.But if you ordered a Full English breakfast from the waiter you wee still expected to pop off and make your own toast!! For a resturant and hotel of this standard this is a bit of a poor do.

Loved the White Co toiletries in the room. Dining Room a bit chilly after sun had set with the marvellous floor to ceiling panoramic glass. Although at breakfast time we were shown to a table at the West end and there was a heater next to our table. Chairs were comfier at this end too. Overall value for money and great location. Certainly an experience hotel!

this is a lovely hotel with the added advantage (for us) that it is dog friendly. Our room was spacious and distinct with great views over Morecambe bay.

A lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The room was great with the bonus of a sea view; a good size, comfortable and with an excellent and well-equipped bathroom.

We thought, for dinner, the food and particularly the drinks, although very good, were quite pricey.

Booked a special deal through TravelZoo. What a wonderful experience for our friend's 80th birthday. Fantastic location and the hotel was mind blowing - wonderful art deco style in the bedrooms and public areas. Staff attentive and very professional in the reception, bars and restaurant. Food was very fresh and well presented. Looking forward to our next visit.
