The location (walking distance from downtown)

I wish they had TV, refrigerator and microwave in each room.

Helpful staff. Restaurant very good (Milton's).
Other Comments
Rooms are small by today's standards. No TV in rooms which keeps it quieter. Breakfast buffet quite adequate. Historic older place which is dated but well maintained.

They didn't have a copy of my reservation. Luckily when I showed them the confirmation email, they had a vacancy.

Quaint and quiet. Close enough to Asheville to enjoy all entertainment, yet far enough away to enjoy the solitude of the mountains.

Location close to asheville

Tiny room with uncomfortable, lumpy bed...ok if a single room, but too small for a couple...about the size of a closet,..breakfast was disappointing, weak continental breakfast.

Charming & cozy historic hotel. Enjoyed relaxing in the courtyard & porch. Nice change from the chain hotels. Excellent customer service. Short walk to downtown to shop & restaurants. No TV in room... no problem. They have WiFi for your devices. Or read a real book for a change :)

Aside from Christian who was the concierge the 1st day when we checked in..he was the only staff who was friendly and personable. The bed was the worse mattress we have both ever slept on..the housekeeping barely even cleaned our room on between night 1 and night 2..trash was still left on the floor, cups, plates, etc.were still left untouched in the room also. There was no TV (which I wish we had known in advance), and all in all..just not the best visit and we were happy to be checking out..

Casual elegance and excellent restaurant
Other Comments
Historic inns tend to divide into two camps. They are either designer restorations that cater to an elite clientele (and priced accordingly) or stuffy older properties that feel dark, cluttered and just plain old. The The Monte Vista is different – nicely updated but still casual and relaxed enough for anyone to feel comfortable. The location is great too, only a 5 minute walk to the shops and restaurants in Black Mountain. But make sure to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant because the food is both exceptional and reasonably priced. My tagliatelle bolognese that was better than anything I've had in a "real" Italian restaurant, and my broccolini was served lightly chard (but still crispy) with a wonderful smoky flavor. Wine was also excellent. I appreciated the TravelZoo deal I received and will definitely be returning.
