"I think the location was probably my favorite thing. the hotel, while for the most part very clean, is also fairly dated. It could really use some updating. However, for the price I paid, and the very little time I spent in the room, I can't complain. The Metro station is only about two blocks away. Whole Foods has a store also nearby and I had breakfast there every day I was in town."

Overview

Known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in Washington, D.C., the Foggy Bottom area borders the White House property and is considered home to some of the city’s most sought-after attractions. Spend time in this renowned area with a stay at the University Inn, previously more formally known as George Washington University Inn.

Spacious guest rooms average nearly 400 square feet and feature complimentary Wi-Fi access, flat-panel TVs, coffemakers and mini-fridges. Large picture windows showcase views of the city, and for those who love fresh air, the windows fully open - a nice rare find compared to most hotel rooms. Studio suites are even larger and have a separate living area.

Guests are just steps from the George Washington University and the Kennedy Center, and you can take a 20-minute hike along tree-lined streets to the restaurants of Georgetown and other shops along the Potomac riverfront. To explore beyond Foggy Bottom, take a three-minute stroll to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station which can take you anywhere in the nation's capitol you need to be.

Onsite dining is available at Notti Bianche, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; there's also a pre-theater menu for prix-fixe dining, perfect for guests planning on attending events at the Kennedy Center. Nearby restaurants include the Michelin-recommended District Commons featuring upscale American cuisine, and the Zagat-rated Burger Tap & Shake for "a foodie take on fast food" (and don't miss the liquor-spiked milkshakes).

Great price for the location. You are just 1-1/2 blocks from Metro Train station. Whole Foods is also close to the hotel. Customer service at the hotel was great. Anything my wife and I needed, they went out of their way to help us. The hotel does need updating, but the hotel is clean.

Great staff and location but the room/furniture was a little threadbare. Functional but could use some work.

I liked that it was dog-friendly, and it had a decent location to all the sites we wanted to see.

The location close to Foggy Bottom station made the sights very accessible. Having a kitchenette made it efficient and saved us some money.
Other Comments
The unit was nice and large and comfortable. Some of the furniture needs replacing but it was functional and the unit was clean.

The kindness of the staff, even when put in embarrassing circumstances with their manager. Jaime (valet) and Joseph (dining/bar) especially nice.
Other Comments
Hotel in need of serious renovation, electric did not work in several outlets, hair dryer did not work, carpet in room was filthy, bathtub was painted and paint was peeling, wallpaper peeling off walls to expose mold, etc. When I discreetly sought the assistance of the Manager, he was extremely confrontational - in front of other guests, reception/registration staff and valet service. You could tell the staff did not care for the management. Based on their reaction, my guess is, they've probably witnessed poor behavior on the part of management before. I would NOT recommend this hotel !!

The hotel is a little old but staff was extremely nice and Foggy Bottom location close to Georgetown is wonderful. Great neighborhood. Capital Bikeshare Station & Whole Foods Market nearby. Be sure not to miss the free 6 pm show at Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts

Location is very convenient to metro and downtown DC.
Other Comments
Rooms were shabby, couch had visible stains, furniture very old. Bathroom needed fresh wallpaper, paint and bathtub faucet leaked and was noisy. Staff did not honor free upgrade to 1 bdrm suite from 2double STD room that travelzoo advertised at booking. Charged $10. plus tax per night to upgrade.
