Overview

Stays at this hotel situate you perfectly to experience the charms of the historic city that used to be known as the "Paris of the North." Dawson City was once flooded by millionaires looking to get their hands on hidden gold. It quickly became a hub for business people, gamblers, bankers, prostitutes and saloon keepers, and was the largest city west of Winnipeg and north of Seattle.

From 1896 to 1899, $29 million worth of gold was mined around Dawson City, an era known as the Klondike Gold Rush. This rich history is embedded in the local architecture and the people, making it a fascinating tourist destination.

Experience the heyday of saloons and watch a cancan show at what's known as Canada's oldest casino, Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall.

Visit the Dawson City Museum -- a 10-minute walk from the hotel -- to learn about the Gold Rush and the Yukon's First Peoples.

Hotel bedrooms are basic but exude turn-of-the-century style. They are split between the main building and an annex across the street.

Buy a souvenir from the hotel's gift shop and dine at the Jack London Grill, which is open daily.

For those with a strong stomach, order a Sourtoe Cocktail, served in the hotel's Sourdough Saloon. You choose the shot, they provide the mummified human toe. Successful participants become a member of the Sourtoe Cocktail Club; just don’t forget the rule -- you can drink it fast, you can drink it slow, but your lips must touch the toe!
