The Crown Hotel in the spa town of Harrogate is a "regal" (The Daily Telegraph) property that boasts "traditional old-world charm" and an "excellent location".

It's less than 10 minutes' walk from the fashionable shops, bars and restaurants in the town centre, where you'll also find the renowned Bettys tea room, "famed for its elegant afternoon teas, delectable cakes and biscuits, tasty lunches and excellent service" (The Yorkshire Post).

The Grade II-listed Valley Gardens -- a 17-acre park with seasonal flower displays, a café, a children's playground, a small boating lake, tennis courts and a crazy golf course -- is a 5-minute stroll from the hotel. Opposite the main entrance, you'll also find the impressive Victorian Royal Pump Room, now a museum where you can learn about the history of Harrogate water.

York and Leeds are both around 45 minutes' drive from the hotel, while the historic market towns of Wetherby and Knaresborough are less than 25 minutes' drive away. Harrogate is also a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with popular sites such as Bolton Abbey, Swinsty Reservoir and Skipton Castle all around 30 minutes' drive away. The National Trust site of Brimham Rocks -- a large collection of natural rock formations in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty -- is also around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Breakfast is served in the grand ballroom, where you can admire the original stained-glass windows and oak-panelled walls. There is also a bar for snacks and drinks throughout the day, and a restaurant that serves "hearty, well-presented European food" (The Daily Telegraph) and afternoon tea.

Absolutely brilliant, feel for the staff as they work so hard, need more bad staff. Deputy Manager Dan was especially pleasant and couldn’t do enough for the guests, he deserves a big pat on the back. Everything was spot on and fantastic value for the price. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go again.

We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. There is limited options for the included meal and this should be made clear in the booking process. The dining room was extremely cold which spoilt our evening meal.

Rooms large and pleasant. Breakfast (when we could eat it) was delicious. The location was very central, and it was a nice building.
Other Comments
The soundproofing (3rd floor) was dreadful, we were loudly disturbed at 5.30am by our neighbours when they woke, and could hear everyone walking by and talking in the corridor, though no-one was being especially noisy. Breakfast was farcical - they had run out of tables and had people waiting in a queue and at the door. They opened another room but quite a long way to walk back and forth with drinks, food etc. Only one toaster, too, so long delays there while food went cold. The security was worrying (I won't give details here but will to the hotel). Corridor/stairs decor very drab and in need of renovation.

We enjoyed our stay at the Crown Hotel. Managed to get the last available parking space which is a bit expensive but was very handy.

Room was hot and could not turn it down. In all it was a great place for a break at this time of year. Staff very pleasant. We would definately stay again.

Excellent deal and would definitely go back
Other Comments
My only criticism was that at breakfast the hash browns were well over cooked and the sausages undercooked. Apart from that all was excellent with a lovely meal in the evening
