Overview

The Blackburn Inn sits in the heart of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, in historical Staunton, a picturesque town known for celebrating the arts. The property, built in 1828 by Thomas Jefferson protege Thomas R. Blackburn, opened this past summer as a boutique hotel.

The inn offers a classic American look with red brick, whitewashed wood trim and light-filled hallways; however, rooms are modern in style and very spacious. Bathrooms are beautifully appointed with barn-style doors and rain showers. Select rooms offer soaking bathtubs. All rooms feature mobile-key access, free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers and mini-fridges.

The Blackburn Inn has an on-site restaurant, Second Draft, that features locally sourced dishes and some of Virginia's best wines, beers and ciders. On good-weather days, guests can enjoy bites and drinks from the property's large wraparound front porch, or take the spiral staircase up to the rooftop cupola for breathtaking views of the grounds and downtown Staunton.

The city of Staunton, birthplace of President Woodrow Wilson, is a charming small town with a big arts culture. Guests looking to sample some of Virginia's best microbrews can explore the breweries along the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail, many located within an hour's drive of the inn.

Wish they had more information on their history. Previously it was a state mental hospital and a prison. Would like to know more!

Rooms are spacious. Breakfast is continental with delicious bakery items. Staff were very accommodating
Other Comments
I would not recommend this hotel who has trouble getting around. The hotel is on a hill and you are walking up to the door. For most people this would not be a problem, for older people it might be.
