Overview

This downtown Kansas City hotel and art museum, which opened in 2018 after a $47.5 million renovation, is the newest addition to the 21c Museum Hotel family. The hotel is located in an historic 1880's-era building and retains an old-world feel in the restaurant and lounge, while the museum features the work of cutting-edge artists from around the world.

The art-friendly feel extends to the rooms, all of which are decorated with original artwork, along with 43-inch flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, Malin+Goetz bath amenities and plush bedding. Thanks to the building's historic nature, rooms have a variety of different shapes and sizes, along with high ceilings and large windows. Wi-Fi is also free.

The hotel's restaurant, the Savoy at 21c, features a menu focused on classic Americana including dishes like scallops meuniere, deviled lamb chops with mint jelly and prime rib, alongside cocktails like the Savoy Sour, with apple brandy, and an Old Fashioned, with a special house bourbon blend. History buffs will also want to have a drink in booth No. 4 -- it was President Harry S. Truman's favorite.

The hotel's art museum has a rotating, curated collection featuring artists from around the world. It's open 365 days a year and always open to the public; a docent hosts guided tours every Wednesday and Friday. The city's Power & Light District is less than 20 minutes away on foot, which features numerous bars, restaurants, movie theaters and the Sprint Center.

Our room was lovely; however, we had a problem with some noise that sounded like the HVAC was revving up to go. We reported the problem; management apologized.

The Savoy, both the bar and restaurant, are incredible and worth a try, albeit on the pricey side. The bar has a very respectable spirit selection and their signature drink, the Savoy Sour, was great and balanced.

This hotel is also an art museum, so art is everywhere. They also have these four foot tall lightweight penguin sculptures all over the hotel that guests are encouraged to move around at their leisure. Had one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time at the hotel restaurant, The Savoy, which also has an eclectic, warm and comfortable setting. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant, helpful and eager to improve our experience.
Other Comments
Not a whole lot of dining option in the area but we found a decent burger within walking distance.

The uniqueness and charm of the hotel was refreshing. The breakfast was delicious. Although we didn’t get to eat any other meals in the hotel, if it was anything like breakfast..... it was good. We will definitely stay here again!
