The Lodge at Ashford Castle is set in 350 acres of parkland on the grounds of the Ashford Castle estate, which dates back to 1228. The Lodge is set on the shores of Lough Corrib, just outside the village of Cong in County Mayo, and is described as "charming" by The AA Hotel Guide 2015. The 4-star country-house hotel was built in 1865 and has been extended over the years. The estate in which it was built was once home to the Guinness family and is now part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection.
The AA-Rosette Wilde's restaurant at The Lodge serves contemporary Irish cuisine and offers "stunning views over Lough Corrib", according to The AA Hotel Guide 2015. Head chef Jonathan Keane uses local produce including Irish beef and lamb, and seafood from Galway Bay and the Connemara coast. The Quay Bar and Brasserie has views of Lough Corrib and there is also an on-site wine cellar, housing classic vintages.
Guests can also dine at George V Restaurant and the Connaught Room at Ashford Castle. The castle is a 20-minute walk away or transportation can be arranged.
There are 24 Deluxe Bedrooms, 12 Duplex Suites, eight Quay Suites and six Lake View Suites. All rooms are individually designed and have super-king beds with goose-down duvets and pillows, and bathrooms have underfloor heating.
On-site activities include horse riding, kayaking, clay pigeon shooting and archery. There are lots of walks and cycle paths to explore, or you can fish on the shores of Lough Corrib, renowned for its wily brown trout, pike and salmon. Ireland's School of Falconry is also located on the estate and it also has eagles and owls.
Other facilities include a 9-hole golf course and tennis courts.The Beauty Rooms at The Lodge offers treatments including facials and manicures (supplements apply and must be pre-booked). There is free Wi-Fi throughout.
