Overview

The Imperial Crown Hotel is a 19th-century former residence in the centre of Halifax in West Yorkshire. The town sits halfway between the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District national parks, and is around 30 minutes' drive from Leeds.

The "jaw-dropping" (The Guardian) Piece Hall, Calderdale Industrial Museum and Eureka! The National Children's Museum are all less than five minutes' walk from the hotel, as is the Grade II-listed town hall. The 600-year-old medieval manor and grounds of Shibden Hall are around 25 minutes' walk away, while Bankfield Museum -- a Victorian mansion and park -- is around 20 minutes' walk away. Other sights, such as Scammonden Reservoir, Ogden Water Country Park and Wainhouse Tower -- the tallest folly in the world -- are within a 15-minute drive of the hotel.

For a day out in the Yorkshire Dales, we recommend a visit to Bolton Abbey on the banks of the River Wharfe, less than 40 minutes' drive north of the hotel. Its 30,000 acres are home to over 80 miles of footpaths and the ruins of a 12th-century priory. Alternatively, you can head south to explore the rolling hills of the Peak District National Park or walk the heritage trail at Marsden Moor Estate -- a National Trust site less than 25 minutes' drive away. Here you can also join the Pennine Way, a 270-mile walking route that runs from the Peak District to the Scottish borders.

The Crown Restaurant serves British classics made using local ingredients. Wi-Fi is free.

The location in the heart of the town was ideal to visit places of interest within walking distance. It appeared to be under staffed however this did not cause us any problem with service. Evening meal was of a high standard, breakfast was completely the opposite, very poor in terms of choice and quality

The staff were very helpful with my dairy free requirements, ensuring that I had soya milk, dairy free spread and fruit tea bags.
Other Comments
The evening meal was poorly presented - 2 slices of ham hock terrine with 2 small triangles of bread (not enough bread which would be better toasted & no salad leaves) The meal was included in our offer, but if we wanted vegetables they were an extra charge! The monkfish scampi (3 pieces) came with 5 chunky chips and pea puree. I asked for garden peas, but was told there was only mushy peas available - Garden peas were advertised on the children's meal in the hotel though!

The hotel was lovely & clean. Room was very spacious with a good hot shower. The meals were great with plenty of choice. The staff were all very pleasant. The only downfall is the postcode. It is not right as it doesn’t take you to the hotel. We did inform the hotel & they stated they are aware of this, however it needs to be updated otherwise you end up in a derelict cul-de-sac.
