Overview

Best Western Beamish Hall Hotel is an 18th-century manor house in Northumberland, halfway between Durham and Newcastle. The property is set in 24 acres of parkland -- take a stroll through the landscaped gardens or visit Beamish Wild, a high ropes assault course in the treetops (fees apply).

Inside, this grand property still retains many of its original features, with ornate furnishings, carved oak fireplaces, stained glass windows and a grand sweeping staircase. Rooms are individually designed and feature antique furnishings -- Deluxe Rooms are more spacious than Classic Rooms.

The historic stable block has been converted into a bar and restaurant, where "regional producers supply the best local ingredients" (The AA). Here you can sample the pub's own real ales, which are brewed on site at the hotel's microbrewery -- the property can arrange tours for an extra charge. There is also an Edwardian tearoom that serves traditional afternoon tea.

The open-air Beamish Museum -- which tells the story of life in northeast England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s -- is five minutes' drive or 20 minutes' walk from the property. You can also drive north to explore "vibrant and handsome" (Rough Guides) Newcastle or head south to visit the university city of Durham, "home to England's most beautiful Romanesque cathedral" (Lonely Planet). Both can be reached in less than 30 minutes by car.

The most enjoyable was the full English breakfast,
Other Comments
The choice of menu for dinner was limited could have had a bigger choice, however the fact it was Sunday might have had something to do with it. The staff on reception were helpful and pleasant, the staff at dinner and breakfast were less enthusiastic.

The rooms were pleasant and the grounds were amiable. The Stables presented a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. The location of the hotel for Beamish Museum was excellent.
Other Comments
While walking around the grounds of the hotel, we came across an area were items (including some white goods) had been disregarded. This was unsightly and blemished our image of Beamish Hall. We felt that the items should have been disposed of properly to maintain the positive image presented at the outset by the hotel so as not to blight the landscape.
