Overview

Hotel de Anza is an iconic hotel in downtown San Jose, named after famed explorer Juan Bautista de Anza. The hotel first opened in 1931 and was known for The Tap Room, a popular place for visitors to dance and enjoy live music. The hotel is now home to the Hedley Club Lounge, where guests can indulge in seasonal cocktails while listening to live jazz some evenings. Other dining options include Caffe La Pastaia, serving Mediterranean-inspired dishes, as well as La Pastaia, which has served up contemporary Italian cuisines for over two decades. 

The hotel completed a major renovation to guest rooms, meeting space and common areas in 2015, yet still retains the art deco charm and historic elements that made it so popular back in the day. With only 100 guest rooms, it is one of more intimate hotel experiences in the area.

First time here and we will DEFINITELY be back! We ordered room service and the food was large portions and yummy! The beds were comfortable, robes were amazing, the room was clean, and it was near enough to walk to restaurants/bars. There are a couple of parking garages nearby if you want to save ~$6-10 from the valet cost

You require guests to pay the "amenities fee" then you should have robes already in the room instead of having to request them from the front desk

I LOVE DEANZA HOTEL! Everyone one is so nice. We were treated like royalty. From the housekeeping staff to the restaurant staff. Everyone was lovely, friendly, attentive and helpful! I will be back soon! Travelzoo is great too! what a great way to book a hotel room!

The reservation was easy to make, check-in was quick and easy, but the hotel valet was not present much and front desk staff didn't seem to want to call them. Parking, for valet and checking in was not well marked. Had to drive around the block to find it.

Staff with more personality would make this place exceptional! Also, not sure where the break down was, but the valet brought the wrong car to us. I called down and was asked for the last three digits of the ticket, which I gave. He brought up another car; ours was parked already on the street.

My wife and I are world travelers. And we travel a lot. Yet for our 5 year anniversary, we decided to stay close to our home in Santa Cruz and take advantage of a great price on a room for one night and get out of the house. This is a note to management at Hotel DeAnza: The staff needs a little pep talk regarding the Hotel's overall competition in the hospitality industry. While the room was very nice and quiet, other than some expected traffic noise on the 6th floor, the front desk staff looked downright depressed, and acted so. Quiet, curt, short yes/no answers. No enthusiasm upon check in or check out. No smile. The morning of checkout, I called the valet number on my claim ticket 15 minutes early to get our car. The phone rang and rang, no answer. So I pushed the button on the room phone that said" valet". The woman answers "hello". I said "is this the valet". She replies "no, this is the front desk", I'll tell them to get your car". Note, I had not yet even told her why I was calling, but she assumed correctly. We check out. My "Thank You" was much more enthusiastic than her quiet "Your Welcome". We walk out to the valet guys, and hand them our ticket. He was surprised. Nobody told them we were coming. He was super apologetic, and ran to get our car (not his fault). My wife and I shrugged our shoulders, shook our heads and looked at each other with sarcastic grins. The experience left us thinking, no wonder why this hotel was offering such great prices lately.

Excellently located in the heart of downtown San Jose with lots of restaurants and event spaces nearby, we found the hotel to be stylishly updated and comfortable. Due to the nearby airport, it is possible, to hear (and see) planes that coming in for landings, but we felt that the price was correct for that minor inconvenience (of additional occasional noise). We would certainly stay here again.
