Only negative comment was the shower curtain fitted inside the bath, which when showering gets drawn in and makes it difficult to shower without getting caught in it.

Staff very caring and welcoming. Reception area really beautifully decorated for Xmas. Our room in north lodge was rather tired looking but spotlessly clean. Lovely location near the riverside. The Travelzoo deal was great value and included one evening meal for the two of us. We decided to eat again in the hotel the following night which we paid for. We were disappointed with the quality of the steak meal, very grisly and tough and quite expensive. We were the only people in the restaurant, not very atmospheric. Many residents at the hotel ate at the Passage Inn, just beside the hotel. When we stay again we will do the same.

The restaurant and staff were lovely. What we didn’t like was being tucked away in North Lodge which meant dressing up in Gortex or jumping into the car to get to the main hotel. We were left feeling we were in a cheap motel, complete with traffic noise, very poor WiFi and an lumpy old bed!

Why put guests all be it guests who have made use of a special offer in such bad rooms? The hotel was empty, four couples in for dinner, yet we were put in the back room overlooking the car park. If we had been treated to a view we might think “wow! We must come back here! “
