A winding tree-lined road overlooking historic Vence leads up to the Hotel Restaurant & Spa Cantemerle, set on a wooded hillside amid over two acres of pine-filled grounds. This modern hotel occupies a complex of terracotta-hued villa-style buildings, a 15-minute walk from Vence’s medieval centre, with its lively morning market, picturesque squares and 12th-century cathedral. The quaint village of Saint-Paul de Vence, packed with art galleries, is a 10-minute drive away, whilst glamorous Nice, “the capital of the Côte d’Azur” (The Daily Telegraph), is a 30-minute drive from the hotel. Both Grasse, “synonymous with perfumery since the 16th century” (Lonely Planet) and the Mediterranean resort of Antibes are within a 40-minute drive of the hotel.
Hotel Restaurant & Spa Cantemerle opens to a green-toned lobby area decorated with black-and-white-striped armchairs. There’s a refined restaurant serving seasonal regional cuisine, which opens to a terrace and features an adjacent art deco-design bar, as well as an outdoor pool surrounded by plants and flowers. Guests can relax in the contemporary spa, which offers a glass-enclosed indoor pool, a fitness centre, a sauna and a sun terrace, plus a range of beauty treatments (fees may apply).
Overlooking the hillside, guestrooms are decorated in a simple style with a neutral colour palette and include free Wi-Fi, TVs, mini bars and sitting areas, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities. Higher tariff rooms add private terraces, whilst some add mezzanine levels and have views of the garden. Colourful suites hung with Pop Art prints come with separate living rooms and Jacuzzi tubs.
