Overview
Amid lush greenery just outside the historic riverside town of Beaucaire, Domaine des Clos offers traditional country house accommodation between Provence’s Parc Naturel Regional des Alpilles, with its walking, cycling and horse riding trails, and the wildlife-rich Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue. This family-run hotel occupies a former winery and its outbuildings dating from the 18th century, characterised by mottled stone walls and wooden shutters. Tarascon, home to a noted 15th-century fortress, is a 15-minute drive away, whilst three UNESCO World Heritage Sites are within a 30-minute drive of the hotel, including the Pont du Gard aqueduct, the city of Arles, known for its Romanesque architecture, and Avignon’s Palais des Papes and medieval bridge.
Domaine des Clos is set in four hectares of landscaped grounds, which include an olive grove, a vegetable garden and picnic tables, and are dotted with sun loungers and deck chairs. Guests can take a dip in the outdoor pool, enjoy games of table tennis and petanque, and relax in the building’s shady alcoves and covered patios. A buffet breakfast is served in the former stables, which open to a terrace (fees apply), while dinner made with ingredients grown on site is available during the summer season (please note, the restaurant is only open for dinner on Monday and Thursday nights in July and August -- alternatively, the hotel offers picnic hampers). There’s a sandpit and trampoline for kids, a game room, and a cosy lounge with bold red sofas and a fireplace, and cookery and wine tasting workshops are also available (surcharge).
Individually designed rooms and apartments are decorated in a rustic style with features such as exposed brick walls, wood-beamed ceilings, local artefacts and antique furnishings. All include free Wi-Fi and TVs, as well as access to a communal sitting rooms and kitchens. There are also nine apartments sleeping up to seven people, which come with kitchens, dining space and living areas, and offer touches such as private terraces, terracotta flooring and countryside views.
