"Great hotel. Had a wonderful time and would definitely return. Only suggestion would be to replace shower/tubs in bathrooms. The plumbing is rickety and worn out. Otherwise, no complaints or problems."

Overview

Perched atop 26 acres of Vermont’s Green Mountains, The Stowehof has welcomed visitors year-round since 1945. Designed to resemble an Austrian ski chalet, the resort has breathtaking views of the surrounding alpine landscape and is less than 10 minutes from downtown Stowe.

All rooms have private bathrooms and include free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea. Accommodations offer the choice of one king or one queen bed and most include separate dressing rooms. Guests can upgrade to rooms with mountain views.

Guests can have breakfast in the Mansfield Room with large windows facing its namesake mountain. Coffee and tea are available all day. For dinner, the Fritz Bar offers a traditional Bavarian menu with locally sourced ingredients and a wide selection of German beers.

The property features a seasonal outdoor pool surrounded with umbrellas and lounge chairs where guests have the option to dine poolside. Visitors also have access to the resort’s fire pits, beach volleyball, shuffleboard and disc golf course. Indoors, visitors have year-round access to the pool, sauna, library and fireplaces. For those visiting in winter, Stowe Mountain is just a 10-minute drive.

Rooms are old and smelled. Hallways were dank and dark. Not worth the money.

Very pleasant 3 day trip. Hotel atmosphere is relaxing and homey. Rooms have a “vintage” look and feel, are not modern and sleek, so if that is what someone is looking for, this is not it. We loved the old-fashioned feel, so we were quite pleased. Hotel staff were lovely and we would go back again.

Spent three days at the Stowehof and had a wonderful time. Lots of activities available, such as shuffleboard, swimming, tennis, hiking, board games, fire pit, etc. The bar was great and the views fabulous. Coffee, tea, and water available in the lobby all day and night. Hot tub was very nice, as was sauna. The rooms are quaint.....not modern, but have a “vintage” look, which we loved. The shower/tub area in the bathroom could use a redo, but overall, we really enjoyed our getaway at this hotel.

We enjoyed staying at the Stowehof. It was quiet and peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of town. It's a very old fashioned ski lodge, and a wonderful experience!

Have you seen White Christmas? Do you know that charming Vermont-country vibe at the Columbia Inn? The Stowehof gives you exactly that! This hotel is the perfect place to call home base for your trip to the Stowe area. The decor is traditional wood and leather and there are fire pits and little conversation nooks everywhere you turn. We absolutely adored Molly at the front desk! She went above and beyond all expectations and had us chatting and laughing all through check in and again at checkout. The bartender at the Fritz was fantastic and we really enjoyed our drinks. Sadly we didn't have a chance to try the food in the bar or at breakfast so I can't comment on that. I wish we could have been there longer than just one night! Next time we'll be back and we'll be bringing our dog who will absolutely love exploring the expansive grounds. I dearly hope this hotel will always be around, it's a true hidden gem!

The setting was incredible, the grounds outside immaculate. Recent new furniture and decor in common rooms were lovely

We stayed in upgraded mountain view room. The size and cleanliness were great but bathrooms dated. My only comment was areas of hotel including rooms had a musty smell. All the windows should have been opened as I suspect the hotel was closed up for a period of time. We will definitely return.

Not a chain hotel. Unique property with a mid-century decor and a spectacular location. Really nice staff, too.
