Overview

Completed in 1883, the same year as the Brooklyn Bridge, the edifice that is now The Beekman Hotel was one of Manhattan’s original skyscrapers with twin turrets crowning the red brick structure. Over a century later, the façade was named an official New York City Landmark before opening as The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, in 2016.

Nearly 300 guest rooms loop around the nine-story Victorian atrium topped with a glass pyramid skylight at “New York’s most beautiful new hotel” (Architectural Digest). Custom-made leather headboards and curated art occupy the high-ceiled rooms in addition to modern day comforts like free Wi-Fi, sateen linens, state-of-the-art Revo SuperSignal Deluxe Table Radios with Bluetooth wireless streaming, flat-screen TV, blackout curtains and dimmer lights. Bathrooms feature rainfall showers, marble tiles and toiletries from a Brooklyn-based perfume house.

Upgrades are available to suites that include foyers, bathtubs, living rooms with fully stocked bar carts and work desks looking out at lower Manhattan. Guests reserving the Thompson Suite or one of two Turret Penthouses receive complimentary airport transportation, breakfast for two, a personal concierge and views stretching to City Hall and One World Trade Center.

Originally a theater, the building sits on what used to be an extensive library that hosted writers like Edgar Allen Poe. Today the famous poet’s portrait hangs in The Bar Room, which is open for morning coffee, light fare throughout the day and cocktails into the night. Augustine, a brasserie-style restaurant by Keith McNally, serves French cuisine for three meals a day. Acclaimed chef and restaurateur Tom Colicchio serves up a menu of classic New York City dishes at Temple Court. The Cellar Lounge, opening in the fall of 2017, will offer cocktails in a candlelit lounge. In-room dining is offered around the clock. Guests have access to the hotel’s two-level fitness center and complimentary rides in the Lexus house car are available upon request.

From the press:
  • "An 1881 landmark that took more than four years to bring back to its original architectural splendor" -- Travel + Leisure
  • "Completely suited to Wall Street’s current gilded age -- and the overall revitalization and cool-ification of lower Manhattan" -- Forbes
