the g Hotel and Spa is a modern 5-star property by Lough Atalia, 25 minutes' walk (or a 10-minute drive) from the centre of Galway. The hotel's flamboyant interiors were designed by Galway milliner Philip Treacy, who has designed hats for Lady Gaga, Grace Jones and Boy George.
Set on the outskirts of town, the hotel is close to the shops and the cinema at Well Park retail park, and is a good base for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way -- 1500 miles of coastline which stretches between Donegal in the north and Cork in the south, taking in "Ireland's scenic showstoppers, welcoming towns and villages, heritage sites and plenty of unexpected thrills" (The Independent) along the way.
The light-filled Restaurant gigi's serves modern cuisine and Irish steaks. It has been awarded two AA Rosettes -- the only restaurant in Galway to achieve the grade. The hotel's Asian-inspired spa by ESPA has a vitality pool, crystal steam room, rock sauna, ice fountain and a relaxation room overlooking the rooftop zen garden. Hotel guests are charged a reduced rate for use of the thermal suite, or it is free when booking a treatment of 55 minutes or longer.
The rooms have huge beds, Treacy-designed linen and photographs of the designer's favourite model, Linda Evangelista. Deluxe Rooms are larger than the standard Superior Rooms, and some have views of Lough Atalia.
