Grand Ferdinand is a luxury hotel on Vienna's Ringstrasse -- a 19th-century boulevard that is home to some of the city's most iconic sights, including the Vienna State Opera and the Museum of Fine Arts. Occupying a listed 1950s building (formerly the headquarters of the Austrian intelligence service), the hotel is filled with designer furniture and made Condé Nast Traveller's 2016 Hot List.
"With its rambling palaces, winding cobbled lanes, elegant Kaffeehäuser (coffee houses) and cosy wood-panelled Beisln, Vienna is steeped in history," says Lonely Planet. The hotel is within 15 minutes' walk of Old Town sights such as The Hofburg (Vienna's imperial palace), the Spanish Riding School and St Stephen's Cathedral. The location is excellent for music lovers -- the 1913 Konzerthaus (concert house) and the Musikverein, which has the "best acoustics of any concert hall in Austria" (Lonely Planet), are both five minutes' walk away.
The Grand Ferdinand Restaurant offers a modern take on traditional Austrian cuisine, while the more informal Gulasch & Champagne offers a menu of small plates and quick meals. The Grand Étage is the hotel's rooftop restaurant -- there is also an outdoor pool on this level (open in summer) offering city views. The hotel also has a courtyard garden and a gym in the basement.
Bedrooms have wooden floors, rainfall showers and free Wi-Fi. Comfort rooms are larger than Standard rooms.
