The Living Hotel Prinzessin Elisabeth is a modern property in the Glockenbachviertel district of central Munich, just south of the Altstadt (Old Town). The hotel is a five minutes' walk from the River Isar and there are numerous trendy cafés and shops in the area.

The Theresienwiese (official home of Munich Oktoberfest), the Viktualienmarkt (daily food market) and the Marienplatz -- the central square, where you'll find both the New Town Hall and the Old Town Hall are all around 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. The Deutsches Museum -- the world's largest museum of science and technology -- is around 25 minutes' walk away.

The hotel has one of the most popular gourmet restaurants in the city -- Shane's, a European-Asian fusion restaurant run by Irish TV chef Shane McMahon. The Munich Travelzoo team have eaten here and recommend it.

There is a lobby, with a beautiful curved staircase and Bauhaus-style leather armchairs, while in the gallery you can admire portraits of Duchess Elisabeth of Bavaria -- the hotel's namesake who was later known as Empress Sisi of Austria. The hotel also has a sauna, a steam bath and a small fitness room.

Rooms mix bold colours with red carpets and dark blue furnishings. All have a small kitchenette. Wi-Fi is free.
