Borgo Bucciano is a historic villa surrounded by olive and cypress trees in the Tuscan hills. It was once owned by the Lorenzelli family, an aristocratic family from Bologna.

It is 15 minutes' drive from San Miniato, an "enchantingly sleepy, medieval hilltop town" (Lonely Planet), which has cobbled streets, a Romanesque cathedral and a medieval fortress. Don't miss the farmer's market, which is held on the third Sunday of the month. Pisa, Florence and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Gimignano are all an hour's drive away.

The property has a courtyard for outdoor dining, and an outdoor swimming pool and a Jacuzzi (open May-September). In the grounds there's an Italian garden and a neo-Gothic chapel, built by the Archbishop of Lucca. Breakfast is served in the converted cellar. The staff can organise activities in the area for guests (extra charges apply), such as wine tasting or truffle hunting -- the area is famous for its white truffles.

There are 11 apartments, decorated with traditional décor and tiled floors. Each has a kitchen with a microwave and a fridge, a living room with a sofa bed, a double bedroom and a bathroom. Wi-Fi is free.
