Surrounded by the towering Salzburg Alps, the Vitalhotel Saliter Hof is an intimate family-run hotel with sleek interiors and a unique ‘vital’ concept. The focus here is on healthy living, and its location on the banks of the Saalach River makes the hotel ideal for an activity-filled holiday.
During winter months, the free ski bus stops right outside the hotel or there are 150 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails to explore. In the summer, guests can choose between Saalfelden’s two golf courses, cycle the Tauern path or race the downhill tracks at the Leogang Bike Park. Bike and hiking equipment hire and storage is available (charges apply), and free guided walks are offered three times a week. Lake Ritzensee is a 10-minute drive and the centre of Saalfelden is 30 minutes away on foot.
Recharge at the restaurant with an extensive repertoire of healthy Austrian dishes, such as crispy salmon with apple and rosemary puree. Dine inside to see your meal being prepared in the open-plan show kitchen or head outdoors for the weekly barbecue in warmer weather. After an active day, guests can take in the panoramic views from the Finnish and bio saunas or the spa’s roof garden. There’s also a well-equipped gym, weekly yoga classes and a relaxation room stocked with fresh fruit and tea. Be sure to book in for a metabolism test to find out how to improve your metabolic health.
Cosy, welcoming rooms have rustic headboards, chunky wooden bedside tables and a spacious terrace. Unusually, bathrooms are all open plan and fitted with showers (some have baths as well). There’s free wired internet access, and Wi-Fi is available in the lobby for no extra charge. Rooms at the rear are quieter.
