Needham House Hotel is an Edwardian manor in Little Wymondley, a quiet village near the market town of Hitchin in Hertfordshire.

The 4-star hotel is easily reached from central London -- the train journey from King's Cross to Stevenage takes around 25 minutes, and it is then 10 minutes by taxi to the hotel. The 120-acre Fairlands Valley Park is a 10-minute drive from the hotel (open daily; the sailing centre is open Tuesday-Saturday). The property is less than 40 minutes' drive from the city of St Albans, with its "host of crooked Tudor buildings" and "elegant Georgian town houses" (Lonely Planet), and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where you can see behind the scenes of the Harry Potter movies.

The hotel's SG4 Brasserie holds two AA Rosettes for its British dishes, served in a relaxed setting. Hertfordshire Life reviewed the restaurant and praised its "attentive" service and "good solid fare". The adjoining bar and lounge offers a selection of over 30 different gins. There's also an ESPA spa with a Turkish hammam, a Swedish sauna and treatment rooms.

Bedrooms are modern and have views of the hotel's grounds. Executive Rooms have larger beds and a bigger TV than the Classic Rooms. Wi-Fi is free.

The room was perfect. The evening meal was very good and the choice of wine was also. The hotel wasn't at all busy because I guess it more designed for conferences and weddings and as we stayed Sunday night that would explain it.

Breakfast was buffet style and the only complaint I should have voiced was that because we did go into breakfast until 9 it had been sitting around. My fried egg was hard and although I am sure they would have cooked me a fresh one I didn't bother to ask.

The room was not nice at all although I upgraded to an executive room with balcony. It was very noisy.. could here the A1 inspite if asking the staff about the noise. The Spa was a disappointment as well. It was extremely basic. We had to pay extra to go to spa near by

Comfy bed, good sized room, good food. I hope they make it as a going concern.

We were on the top floor in one of the chalet rooms. These, of necessity and, sadly, by design probably to stay in the format of the lodge at the end of the complex, had sloping ceilings. It was necessary to be aware of this at all times else a bump on the head ensued!! The breakfasts were great and couldn't be faulted in any way. The meal voucher was OK but the prices were high. For example the steak option was priced at £25. Now it was good but not £25 good. Just had notice of a deal through elsewhere and there a £15 voucher per person for a meal is included. I am sure I will get as good if not better if I take this deal up. A good base for seeing a part of the country with which we were not familiar. No problems with parking although they could do with filling in some potholes!! Decor was a bit bizarre in places. There certainly seems to be a dark theme going on - possibly to minimise maintenance. Reminiscent of hotels near to an airport where a car parking deal is included.

Best English breakfast I ever had, and the room was good as well. The most amazing thing about the stay was the breakfast. Bacon was soft, not too salty and fried to perfection. Meaty sausages were not greasy and tasted like home made. I think the bread and pastries were baked in-house. the croissants were one of the fluffiest and crispiest I ever had, and were slightly sweet.

The hotel is in a secluded location, and gives you the impression of a world away from the hustle and bustle of life. The room was decent sized with a firm comfortable bed and a couple of pillows. Our room had a nice shower, but no bath. Taking a shower was not the most comfortable because the temperature fluctuated. This was caused by an undulating cold water flow (both at night and in the morning). Next time, I’d eat at the restaurant. The price put me off on the day, but I think it would be worth it.
