Why We Love This Hotel

Briery Wood Country House Hotel is a 19th-century property just a stone's throw from the shores of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake.
You can hire a rowing boat from Low Wood Watersports Centre, which is less than 10 minutes' walk away, and paddle along to one of the jetties for a spot of lunch in a nearby village. If that sounds too energetic, the popular towns of Ambleside, Bowness and Troutbeck are less than 10 minutes' drive from the hotel.
The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and nearby National Trust car park are a 20-minute drive away, and mark the starting point of The Langdale Pikes walk. With steep climbs and dramatic descents, the trail passes Dungeon Ghyll -- a deep ravine with a 60-foot waterfall, referenced by William Wordsworth in his poem "The Idle Shepherd Boys". Loughrigg Fell is a 15-minute drive away and has impressive views of Great Langdale.
The hotel restaurant holds an AA Rosette and has a home-grown, local-is-best philosophy; expect dishes like Herdwick lamb, freshly caught salmon from Cartmel and mature cheeses smoked over Cumbrian oak, as well as traditional Sunday lunch.
Dogs can come along for an extra £20 per dog, per stay (payable to the hotel direct; please use the Special Request field when booking). All bedrooms have a TV, a radio, an alarm clock, a hair dryer and a telephone. Wi-Fi is free.
