Located at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain, the AAA 4-Diamond Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch resort offers year-round luxury. Set among rustic surroundings, the property is known for its plethora of outdoor activities and top-notch service that makes guests feel at home. The resort is a grand, lodge-like building set within the mountain. Guests are greeted at the main entrance by the hotel's St. Bernard, Bachelor.

In the springtime, take in the stunning scenery while horseback riding, fly-fishing or enjoy a guided hike with the on-site naturalist. Families can make s'mores around an outdoor fire pit and take part in yard games together. During ski season, the resort offers ski-in, ski-out access, allowing skiers to glide right off the mountain to the new Fireside Bar, a champagne and raw bar, or Daniel's Bar & Grill, which features an outdoor space with fire pits, live music and barbecues. An in-house ski outfitter can provide clothes, a ski concierge gets equipment ready for guests and a nanny takes care of kids who are enrolled in ski school so their parents can hit the slopes.

Guest rooms feature feather-top beds and marble bathrooms with deep-soaking tubs and separate rain showers. Many offer panoramic views of the mountains or valley, and some have a balcony or fireplace. They all have upscale decor and modern furnishings with a Western theme that give the rooms a rustic yet luxurious feel. Club-level rooms have private balconies and fireplaces and grant guests access to the eighth-floor lounge, which has beverages and small bites throughout the day.

Pamper yourself at the Forbes Travel Guide 4-star spa and dine at three restaurants including Buffalos, a family-oriented spot where you can watch sports and enjoy regional craft beer and American fare. There are also tennis courts, a year-round outdoor heated pool and a full Ritz Kids program. Beaver Creek Village is a 10-minute shuttle ride away, and Vail Village is 20 minutes away for dining, nightlife, shopping and more.

There is a problem with the check in reception. When we and our family members check out they added resort fee charges to the bill. We noticed that and told them it was included on the reservation that we booked with TravelZoo. We all checked out at different times. So she looked and corrected our bill. Later the rest of my family check out and again it happened. However we have notified ahead and told them to looked out for the bill. As also a Travel agent I find that very disturbing nd not paying attention to the confirmation. Furthermore as Marriot Gold Elite there was no extra recognition as a Marriot elite member. We stayed at Many Marriott properties and this is the first time she did not bother to make much acknowledgement and she was nice ok. Every time we stayed at other Marriott properties the check in personnel are always very nice and always allowed me to have a later check out.

There was a downside to our trip. On Saturday there was broken glass around the pool area. One little girl got a 3" gash in her foot and needed medical attention. My daughter also got glass in her foot, but it was minor. Of course both families reported it and expected the glass to be cleaned up. The next morning we went out to the pool and none of the glass had been cleaned up. There were literally chunks of glass where you enter the water. We made our kids keep their shoes on up until they got in the water. I asked to speak to a manger and showed her the chunk of glass; she was apologetic. However, we were at the pool for an hour and no sign was put up to warn people and no one had come to clean it up. In my opinion, this is a very serious issue and should have been dealt with immediately. Also, no one ever followed up with me or the other family about the cuts on our daughter's feet.

Because this was mud season and a travelzoo special the hotel & spa was pretty busy on Sat. Despite there being a small sign in the spa locker area about keeping voices down not everyone adhered to that so our visit to the spa on Sat wasn't as relaxing as it was on Fri! The ladies sauna/grotto area could be slightly bigger so there can be some chairs put in there. But overall I enjoyed the hotel and spa.
