The Kuredu Island Resort & Spa epitomises all you would expect from a 4.5-star resort in the Maldives -- which, in a brief span of 40 years, has become "one of the most sophisticated holiday destinations in the world" (The Daily Telegraph) -- with its iconic thatched-roof bungalows and private villas stretched out like strands of pearls along the crystal lagoon-encircled sandbanks.
Being that you're surrounded by ocean, there are plenty of water-based activities available at the resort, in addition to lazing on the beach or by the pool. These include snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, sailing, parasailing, windsurfing and water skiing. Other on-site activities include golfing and golf driving at the on-site course (lessons are also available), yoga classes, cycling (with bicycles available for hire), volleyball, beach volleyball, tennis and pool/billiards.
The resort features seven different types of accommodation, including upscale garden-side and beach-side bungalows; villas (two styles of beach villas, plus a beach villa with a Jacuzzi); water villas -- the iconic Maldives-style huts perched directly over the water, enabling guests to step directly into the water from a private veranda; and the exclusive Sulthan Pool villas, a larger residence with a pool and a private thatched sunshade. Each accommodation type comes with a furnished private veranda or terrace, and includes sun beds, beach towels, a mini bar, a Nespresso machine, a safe, free Wi-Fi, a CD player and a flat-screen TV; some also have 4-poster beds, wine fridges, and direct beach or sea access. Breakfast and dinner are included the accommodation price; additional charges may apply at some restaurants, or for particular beverages, dinners and/or dishes. Room service is also available.
There are seven restaurants -- fine dining, á la carte Mediterranean and Asian, and buffet-style -- plus eight bars (including beach and poolside bars, some with evening entertainment) to choose from, along with a wine cellar and an ice-cream parlour. Other amenities include three outdoor swimming pools, a children's pool and playground, an arcade/games room, a computer station, a library, a pool/billiards room, a golf course, an outdoor tennis court, a gym, a sauna, a steam room, a hair salon, and a full-service spa with 19 rooms offering a wide range of treatments.
