The boutique Heidelberg Suites Hotel is in an updated Neoclassical Italian villa-style building situated along the River Neckar, with views of Heidelberg's picture-perfect castle and bridge, and within easy walking distance of the Old Town.
As "one of the best-known and most visited cities in Germany" (Fodor's), Heidelberg is the quintessential romantic German city. Its ruined red-sandstone schloss (castle) -- a 16-minute walk from the hotel -- and Old Bridge (six minutes by foot) inspired the German Romanticist movement of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, led by Goethe, Hegel, Beethoven and other leading thinkers, composers and artists of the period. It also has a reputation as a lively and distinguished centre of learning, as the country's oldest university (a 38-minute walk from the hotel) was built there in 1386. The Altstadt (Old Town), with its well-preserved mix of Baroque architecture, Medieval half-timbered houses, churches, unusual museums and cobblestone streets, is a 7-minute walk from the hotel, which also offers bicycles for hire (15€ per day).
The hotel's chic, pet-friendly contemporary suites feature refined décor, free Wi-Fi, an iPod dock, a safe and a flat-screen TV, as well as a fireplace and a mini bar; most offer views of the castle and the Old Bridge. Each suite has a living room, a dining area and a kitchenette with a refrigerator; some also have private balconies with views of the Old Town and the castle. Upgraded suites feature a rooftop terrace with a Jacuzzi. The room price includes a free breakfast, which can either be taken in the room or in the small lounge.
There's a garden, a terrace, a sun terrace, and a bar and restaurant set on a cruise boat (the Restaurant Heidelberg Suites Patria) on the river, which serves Mediterranean cuisine. There's also a private spa and wellness centre offering massages, a sauna, a hot tub and a gym/workout room. Limited parking is available on site for 25€ per night (book in advance).
