"When we arrived the lady at the desk was super helpful and worked until she found an adequate room for our 2 families. The only problem we had was a fire alarm going off at 1:50am and no one(staff) seemed to know what was going on. They never told us it was ok to come back inside after spending 30 mins outside. My husband went in and came out to let everyone know that all was clear. We were with our 71 year old mother and she had to walk down 4 flights of stairs. No one was at the bottom directing people and the front desk staff didnt even know the alarm was going off. No procedures in place when we let her know that the alarm was going off. Obviously the safety of your guests is most important but I think the night or day staff should have a procedure they follow of informing guests what to do and where to go. Very poor communication. Next morning my husband visited the office and they didnt have any idea what had happen during the alarm or that it even went off."

Overview

Known as "Queen of the Gulf," Hotel Galvez & Spa is an iconic property that has graced the Texas coastline for over 100 years. Attracting both couples and families, this AAA 4-Diamond hotel is across the street from the beach, where "there’s no sign of the area’s rowdy spring-break scene" (Travel + Leisure).

Celebrating the building's original architecture, guestrooms are on the smaller side, but their amenities "are as modern as they come" (U.S. News) and include complimentary Wi-Fi, docking stations and Simmons Smart Beds.

Named one of the Top 100 Brunch Restaurants in America by OpenTable diners, Galvez Bar & Grill is the go-to for local seafood and a renowned Sunday Champagne Brunch. Guests can enjoy poolside cocktails and Texas-style bites at the seasonal swim-up bar and grill.

A full menu of services is available at the tranquil day spa, but the true hub of relaxation is the outdoor area, boasting an expansive saltwater pool, whirlpool and plenty of lounge chairs.

To explore off-site attractions, the hotel offers bicycle rentals and a courtesy shuttle to the Strand Historic District and Pier 21.

Upon checkout early due to my overall bad experience at this hotel Ms Sarah tried to resolve my reservation disappointment with Mr Stevens of this hotel. She was very accommodating and apologetic. I will never stay here again and I visit Galveston a lot but never will I stay at this hotel again.
Other Comments
Mr Steven talked down to me because my reservation was through Travelzoo and I was not aware of the $100 a day incidental deposit. I was told I should have booked in the hotel website and I would have known this to which I replied I assume your hotel has some sort of reservation arrangement with Travekzoo or I would not have been allowed to reserve a room.

The location is great and the pool area was nice
Other Comments
The rooms were old and dated, peeling paints and the rugs smelled. There were flies in the rooms and hotels.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the service at the Galvez! I particularly wish to compliment Jan from the front desk. What an amazing person! Fantastic attitude, experienced and knowledgeable, accommodating, kind. I have to admit we were rather "needy," with lots of calls and requests for service/help from the front desk. Jan was quick to assist us in every way - and always with the sweetest attitude! We felt very catered to, and our stay at the hotel was wonderful! Cindy Stouff

It was comfortable yet somewhat formal. Perfect combination. The staff made you feel welcome & taken care of. The beds & linens were excellent. The rooms are small yet so welcoming. I simply loved the whole hotel, Not an average hotel, upscale is a term that fits.
Other Comments
I only gave 4 stars because we encountered one staff member who was none of these things. A group of friends went to the pool, we were loud & cheerful, she was very unwelcoming, we left, went to dinner, came back & refused to serve us. We had possibly 3 drinks in about a 3-4 hour time frame. Not drunk, just having fun, I have never been refused service based on someone making a judgment without proof of over indulgence. I am not a child or even young. Eight ladies, ranging in age of 50-70 years old. That was my only negative about the Hotel, it is wonderful. I loved it!
