"We didnt actually go due to the coronavirus lockdown but when I rang them they are kindly putting our booking on hold. This is very kind of them and they didnt need to do it as terms and conditions said no amendments or cancellations once booked. Last time we went there we enjoyed it so much we had no hesitation in booking again and look forward to our next trip."

Overview

Burn How Garden House Hotel is a Victorian property a short stroll from Lake Windermere and a 5-minute walk from the village of Bowness-on-Windermere, where you'll find "trinket shops, cafés, ice-cream stalls and lakeside seats" (Rough Guides).

The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, where you can learn about the author's life and meet some of her favourite characters, including Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck, is a 5-minute walk away.

The hotel has print outs for the Post Knott walk, which starts five minutes' walk from the property. This National Trust walk, a mile and a half in length, is a short but steep climb that gives you spectacular views of Windermere. You can buy other local walking maps and books at the hotel, and there is storage for bicycles.

Bowness Bay -- the starting point for several lake cruises -- and Bowness Bay Marina Windermere Boat Hire are less than a 10-minute walk away.

Sizergh Castle and Garden, a National Trust stately home and garden in Helsington, is a 20-minute drive away.

The hotel's Burn How Restaurant serves regional produce, including Grizedale Forest venison and Lune Valley lamb.

There are 28 bedrooms in total. The ground-floor Rose Garden Rooms are behind the main reception building and have a patio leading out to the rose garden terrace. Lodge Rooms are set over three floors in a detached Victorian residence, opposite the main reception building.

The hotel was very homely, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The decor was a little old fashioned in style but that added to it's charm. The staff were absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and plenty to choose from. Our garden room was very comfortable and had everything we needed.Lovely stay.

Value for money on the Travelzoo deal. Wine a bit pricey. Very helpful staff. Excellent service.

If you stay in the garden rooms you need to go outside to get to the dining and breakfast roons.

Some confusion with regard as to what is actually offered on this Travelzoo break. Our confirmation email stated that we would have £30.50 per person towards a two course meal. However there was a set menu for Travelzoo guests. We asked if we could eat from the A la carte menu, using the allowance. We were told this was ok, and a note left for the restaurant staff. We were also that there was a complimentary glass of wine included. We were told later that this was taken off the £30.50 allowance. There was quite a bit of confusion the following morning when trying to sort out the bill for the evening meal. Eventually they realised that we had been overcharged, we were immediately refunded. We have encountered similar problems before on Travelzoo breaks.
