The simple but elegant rooms at the Quail Lodge and Golf Course in Carmel, California provide a calming complement to a day on the golf course, with comfortable beds, big bathrooms, free Wi-Fi and lovely, private balconies with views of the grounds. Golf enthusiast couples and friends are the most apt audience for the hotel, but kids will appreciate the big pool, and bocce ball and tennis courts.
There isn't a bad dining option on site. Edgar's offers fresh, upscale cuisine in a swanky setting (the wood-fired pizzas are real stand-outs) and the Quail's Nest has a more laid-back feel, but similarly tasty food. Even the basic, complimentary continental breakfast is better than average here.
Rooms are pet-friendly, which is nice considering the wide open grounds, but there are a significant number of rules to bringing along a four-legged friend, making it sort of stressful. Otherwise this is a fantastic hotel, with lots to do, convenient by car to downtown Carmel, as well as the beach.
