Holiday Inn Munich - Leuchtenbergring is our budget pick for Munich, with its clean design and great transport links. While it isn’t in the city center, the hotel is just five minutes on foot from the Leuchtenbergring S-Bahn station, which brings you to Marienplatz and Munich’s main train station in 10 minutes.
The Sunlight restaurant serves up an impressive breakfast buffet until 10am Monday-Friday, and until 11am on the weekend. Later on, classic bistro cuisine, such as Viennese schnitzel and salmon steak and salad, is on the menu – and there’s a very reasonable two-course lunch menu for less than 10€.
After a day exploring Munich’s museums, you can unwind by the fire at the lobby bar Jazz, where there’s a good cocktail list and tapas to nibble. Active guests can keep up with their fitness regimes at Fitness First next door (extra charge applies), where you’ll find a pool, sauna and gym. It’s open 7am-11pm from Monday-Friday and 9am-9pm on the weekend.
You’ll find clean lines and minimalist furniture in the compact bedrooms, with under-floor heating and roomy walk-in showers in the bathrooms. Executive rooms are more spacious and face away from the main highway to ensure a peaceful night. Stay in one of these upgraded rooms and you can help yourself to the mini bar for free (it’s stocked with soft drinks and beer and is refilled daily) and borrow DVDs from reception at no extra charge. Wi-Fi is free across all room types (low-speed access only in Superior rooms), plus safes are sized to fit laptops and have charging stations.
