Sir Christopher Wren Hotel & Spa
About the Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- It's a "well presented" (The AA) hotel in Windsor, with a spa and a luxury leisure club
- The restaurant holds an AA Rosette and looks out on to the River Thames
- Windsor Castle and its ancient parkland are around five minutes' walk away, and Ascot Racecourse is a 15-minute drive
The Sir Christopher Wren Hotel & Spa is a minute's stroll from the River Thames, just beyond the ramparts of Windsor Castle. It's a Grade II-listed property that's named after the architect behind St Paul's Cathedral and the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, who himself grew up in Windsor.
You can head to Windsor High Street, a couple of minutes' walk across Eton Bridge, to watch the Changing of the Guards ceremony on certain days. Windsor Castle, which "encapsulates 900 years of British history" (The Daily Telegraph) and is home to some of the most prestigious works of art in the Royal Collection, is open for daily tours and is just over five minutes' walk.
The restaurant serves modern European cuisine, and Sunday lunch comes with a Bubbles & Jazz option, with three courses, free-flowing prosecco and music from a local jazz trio. The terraced bar serves a variety of cocktails, wines and Windsor and Eton beers, as well as a menu of bourbons and cognacs. Wren's Club is just across the courtyard from the main house and boasts a well-equipped gym and spa.
Bedrooms are spread across the main house and an external building across the lane. Early check-in and late checkout must be requested at least 48 hours in advance, and parking is limited (it's an extra charge of £25 per car, per night, to park on site). Wi-Fi is free.
