The White Hart Inn is a characterful former coaching inn dating from 1554. With just eight bedrooms, this restaurant with rooms makes a cosy base for a countryside break, or you could travel there on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, which calls at Winchcombe station.

Winchcombe is a sleepy town with quaint cottages, boutiques and a 15th-century church, and it was once the capital of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia. It's a good base from which to explore quintessential Cotswold villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh -- all are within 30 minutes' drive of the hotel.

The inn is also at the intersection of the Cotswold Way and Gloucestershire Way walking routes.

Sudeley Castle, the former home of Henry VIII's sixth wife, Catherine Parr, is less than five minutes' drive away, and is open 8-30 December for a Spectacle of Light exhibition. Cheltenham Racecourse is a 15-minute drive away.

The hotel's dining room serves rustic and hearty British cuisine. Ingredients are sourced locally, and the bar stocks regional guest ales and Hereford cider. There's also a wine shop on site.

Bedrooms have country-style décor -- many contain antique furniture, and all include free Wi-Fi. Lazy mornings are encouraged, with breakfast served until noon. Well-behaved dogs can stay at no extra charge.

Made very welcome and the food was great

Our dog Coco was made very welcome. We also appreciated how well the rooms had been modernised - without taking anything away from the character of the beautiful old inn.

We really enjoyed our stay and so did the dog. The staff were friendly and helpful and thus is ideal for the Cotswold Way and other walks.

Booked short break easily enough. As part of the deal I ordered rib eye steak for my meal. It was inedible. I could hardly cut it with a steak knife even though it was cooked rare. I was charged £5 surcharge extra. When I queried this on leaving the reception staff did not have authority to refund it. The inn itself was ok.

Lovely place in the heart of one of the Cotswold's most unspoilt (and not excessively touristy) villages. The place is old, but nicely decorated and benefits from open fires in the bars and meeting rooms and a cozy atmosphere throughout. Breakfasts were lovely. Our only grip was the evening meal which was very average 'pub fare'.
Other Comments
I feel that the restaurant currently lets the rest of the place down, which is a shame

Great location and a nice bar area for drinks. Loved the look of the building with old beams, wonky floors all adds to character.
Other Comments
The room basically, it was a sad room no love in the decor, a large room with beams needed a makeover to bring out the characteristics. It wasn't up to standards regarding the cleaning both the room & bathroom needed attention.
