Hallmark Hotel Bournemouth Carlton is a grand old seaside hotel with well-tended gardens and impressive views of the coastline and the Isle of Wight. The hotel is located on East Cliff, a 5-minute walk along a zigzag path from Bournemouth's 7-mile-long beach.

The hotel is 15 minutes' walk along the waterfront from Bournemouth Pier and Oceanarium: The Bournemouth Aquarium, where you can see humboldt penguins, green sea turtles and blacktip reef sharks, among other species. Bournemouth's train station and high-street shops are 15 minutes' walk away.

The New Forest is 20 minutes' drive away. This 220-square-mile national park is home to ponies and deer, and has many walking, cycle and nature trails to explore. We recommend the deer-viewing platform at Bolderwood, around 30 minutes' drive from the hotel; three circular walks start at the car park and visitor centre there.

Frederick's, the hotel's restaurant, serves traditional British dishes in an impressive high-ceilinged dining room with sea views. There's also a lounge for light bites and afternoon tea, and a club-style bar. Other facilities include indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna and a gym.

Rooms are spacious and have traditional décor. Wi-Fi is free.

Both the location and the interiors are stunning.
Other Comments
The rooms are very spacious, there are signs of age here and there, which could be put right at minimal cost (a missing handle on the furniture, chipped wooden frame at the entrance to the bedroom)

The food was very good, even though the breakfast was a buffet style it was nice and fresh and hot. We enjoyed our evening meal , good choice and nice service.

Initially we were told that there was a £10.00 per night parking fee which we knew nothing about. After discussing our disappointment with the under manager he assured us that it was all in our booking fee. We had an upgraded sea front room which was fantastic.

Our room (No 100) was tired/well worn !! and in need of a refresh. The bathroom was VERY poor and desperately in need of a FULL refurbishment. As we booked through Travelzoo on a "cheap" deal, was this the reason we were allocated (possibly) the poorest room ? or are many other rooms just as bad ? For supposedly a 4 Star hotel they need to offer MUCH better rooms than the one we had !!!
