"One of the best choices in the Valley for families", raves Frommer's, the Arizona Grand Resort is a desert property with activities for everyone. This expansive, all-suite hotel sits at the base of the South Mountain Preserve, just off Interstate 10 and a 10-minute drive from Phoenix.

Reserved for resort guests only, the resort's on-site Oasis Water Park covers seven acres, and is one of the largest water parks in the United States. It is ideal for kids of all ages, with a wave pool, a tubing river and three waterslides that loop down an 8-storey tower. Adults can laze in the 25-person hot tub or grab a drink at the bar.

Other resort highlights include a challenging golf course (named one of the best places to play by Golf Digest), four restaurants, spa treatments and a fitness centre, where more than 45 weekly classes including zumba and yoga are available. There's also a 20,000-square-foot athletics club on site, plus the neighbouring nature reserve has over 60 miles of hiking and biking trails.

All suites are spacious and include a private terrace and a mini or full kitchen. Most are spread across two rooms, with a separate living area and have over-sized bathtubs. The views are over the golf course or the South Mountain Preserve. Villa Suites and Guestrooms can be connected to create a 2-bedroom apartment for families.

There's a daily resort fee of $40 per room plus tax (February-October), which provides access to the seasonal Oasis Water Park. From November-January the resort fee is $25.

Myself, along with 10 others in our party got very sick. Vomiting all night, like bad food poisoning. We are not sure whether it was the pool water or the food from the restaurant that did it.

I had a very hard time getting the hotel to horror the travel zoo package as the 80.00 credits were not apparent on the booking confirmation.

When we checked in, the front desk lady said we got a daily $30 credit for breakfast and a daily $50 credit for other resort activities and food items. When I checked out, the guy said I only got a total of $50 credit for my entire stay plus the daily $30 breakfast credit. I was a little annoyed with that as I over spent the second day to utilize the $50 daily credit i thought i was receiving. I even showed him the paper the lady gave me that proved that but he was pretty arrogant and took them from me and said it was wrong. Didnt offer any reconciliation to their error.

I think they need to offer easy online check in options for check in and check out! Lines are crazy long. Waiting an hour for checking in isn't my idea of vacation

Everything! The room was nice and comfortable and the water park was a big hit. I also liked how the location of the resort was close to everything in Phoenix.
