Why We Love This Hotel
- A boutique Victorian property close to York’s city centre
- Quiet location set back from the main road
- Free bike hire available
A boutique property just outside the city walls but within easy reach of the centre, B+B York (formerly The Groves) sits in a quiet cul-de-sac off the main road in the leafy suburb of Bootham.
York’s biggest attraction is the Minster, the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, less than 15 minutes’ walk from the B&B. From there, it’s easy to explore the city. History buff? Visit the Jorvik Viking Centre to see the remains of 1000-year-old Viking houses and take a tour of a reconstructed Viking settlement, or the York Castle Museum, which documents the city’s social and military history and is housed in a former prison. Alternatively, take a walk around York’s pretty streets, or along its riverside paths. Further afield, the North York Moors and the seaside resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington are around an hour away by car.
B+B York serves breakfast (both continental and freshly cooked to order, and included in the price) but you’ll have to find lunch and dinner elsewhere -- as York is filled with restaurants, cafés and bars, this is more of a treat than a problem. Other facilities back at base include a bar and, free bicycle hire.
Each of the 26 rooms is individually decorated -- all are located in the main house or the cottage extension and offer free WiFi, flatscreen TVs and a hospitality tray. Upgrade to a higher-room category for a 4-poster bed, or a larger suite.
