A family-run boutique B&B in central Brighton, from the outside Hotel Una looks like somewhere aa Jane Austen fan would have felt right at home. Inside, though, it’s all about contemporary design, mixing organic woods, natural fabrics and modern artwork.
It’s set in the famous Regency Square, a 14-minute walk from The Royal Pavilion -- an Asian-style palace built for the Prince Regent, later King George IV. The beach is one block away, while the Churchill Square Shopping Centre is a 4-minute walk away. For independent boutiques, head to North Laine -- 11 minutes by foot. Further afield, the South Downs National Park is great for walking, and London is only 90 minutes away by train.
There’s no restaurant, but Brighton offers a huge range of eating options, so chances are you wouldn’t have been dining back at base anyway. Breakfast is included in the rate, though, and there’s a great cocktail bar, Bar FiftyFive, serving old-school classics. And just in case you’re not feeling relaxed enough, there’s a treatment room offering a range of massages.
The individually styled rooms and suites are modern, and named after various rivers around the world. All have bathrobes, DVD players and flat-screen TVs. Many have Illy expresso machines, while some upgraded rooms have freestanding baths in addition to walk-in showers. A select few feature private saunas with a whirlpool bath. The majority of the rooms overlook Regency Square and offer views of West Pier and the seafront.
