Overview

Damson Dene Hotel is in the Lyth Valley, a 10-minute drive from the shores of Windermere -- the largest lake in England -- which is surrounded by fells and villages.

The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the town of Bowness. Several lake cruises depart from Bowness Pier, and the town is also home to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. This former home of the author, which she bought with the royalties from her books, is now a National Trust property.

Whitbarrow Nature Reserve, known for its limestone and woodland landscape, is around 15 minutes' drive away, and the town of Kendal, best known for its mint cake, is a 20-minute drive.

There are plenty of fell-walking routes close by, including Orrest Head, which is around 20 minutes' drive. This hill on the eastern shore of Windermere offers views the length of the lake and is featured in Alfred Wainwright's The Outlying Fells of Lakeland -- it was the first Lake District fell the author climbed.

The property sits within landscaped gardens with a pond. There's a log fire and comfy lounges in the lobby, so guests can unwind while reading the newspapers and magazines on offer.

The hotel's Heron View Restaurant serves dishes made with local produce -- many of the ingredients are grown in the hotel's kitchen garden. The property also has a swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a mini gym. Wi-Fi is free throughout and dogs are welcome.

There is a duck pond in the garden & the ducks tap on the dining room window when you're eating. Very cute. All the staff were so genuinely friendly. The hotel has a very welcoming vibe.

The leisure facilities were great, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was good especially the breakfast. The grounds were lovely

We was a little disappointed with the room. The pictures upon booking made out that the superior room with 4 poster bed was a very big and spacious. We were given room 3, the room was small and looked a little dated compared to the pictures online. The bed itself was not great, the mattress was a too hard for me but it was so creaky. Every turn I was conscious of the noise the frame was making.

The food was average and not good value for money. The Coach load of noisy tourists spoilt our stay. They were every where, talking loudly and invaded our space in the evening! Then from 7 am were shouting up the corridors to each other and banging doors so no chance of a lie in!!
