The 4-star Hallmark Hotel Cambridge is set in 200 acres of countryside and is a 15-minute drive from Cambridge, which Lonely Planet describes as "abounding with exquisite architecture, oozing history and tradition".

Newmarket Racecourse, which dates back to the 17th century, is a 20-minute drive from the hotel. The Imperial War Museum Duxford -- Europe's leading aviation museum, housing a remarkable collection of 180 aircraft from Europe and the United States -- is also 20 minutes' drive away.

The hotel has a leisure club with a swimming pool, a steam room, a sauna and a gym. There is also an 18-hole golf course and tennis courts.

The hotel's grill restaurant uses seasonal, local ingredients and serves dishes inspired by classic British favourites. We like the sound of the barbecue pork belly with maple-roasted sweet potato to start, followed by the fresh mussels steamed in apple cider. The property also has a garden and a terrace area.

"The contemporary-style bedrooms are smartly decorated and equipped with a good range of useful facilities," says The AA Hotel Guide 2017. Wi-Fi is free.

A good value package but did not meet expectations.
Other Comments
Poor welcome at Reception, hotel "tired", needed updating, bar area dirty, food on floor & untidy tables etc. Very slow restaurant service. Some staff very good but most in desperate need of further training.

Its a shame that the A14 road works significantly affects the access to this hotel and will be doing so for the next three years. Won't be back in a hurry.

prior to our visit we arranged for the early evening meal on the 1st night , when arriving in the bar we were told there were problems in the kitchen & could we have the starter & main meal at the same time ! we said no but they did arrive together !. on the second afternoon we ordered afternoon tea at 3pm this didn't arrive until after 4.15. at the time of checking in we booked a table for the following evening at 7.30 in the restaurant , when arriving in the restaurant they had no record of our prior booking! my wife requested a gluten free pasta meal as the option as penne pasta but it came as an enormous plate of spaghetti with what was supposed to be a ragu sauce with slow roasted beef which appeared to be two portions of cheap beef which were uneatable . ordered 4 starters only 3 arrived one person had to wait for theirs The other 3 meals were ok. when presented with the bill they had two attempts at getting the bill correct on both occasions they didn't . having complained early in the day about the lateness of the afternoon tea the manager did oblige with a complementary drink. on checking out they again got the bill incorrect. overall really disappointed

Advertised as including 3 course meal. At the table we were told we had an allowance of £23 pp which, unfortunately, would not buy 3 courses from their menu. Then there was Addition of supplements on several dishes. Added to this, if you ordered a sauce or side dish, it could not come out of the £23. Very confusing, stressful and Unnecessary for staff and customer. Why not just say you have £23 allowance and anything over that amount would be charged. SIMPLES. I ordered lamb casserole. Lots of lamb but didn't think 2 tiny carrots and one small new potato, sliced any laid on the top was value for money. The dish was unbalanced. I found myself cutting up the carrots and potato and Stirring it into the meat mixture. It was very tasty though.

It is noisy outside as so close to the A14 but the grounds are great for a good walk. Had to ask twice for our wine with dinner before it arrived. Minor niggles though, overall really enjoyed our stay and thought it was excellent value for money.
