"The Elms is an amazing hotel , great decor, pleasant staff , the staff in the Spa were very helpful . Food and cocktails were delicious if maybe a little overpriced . Initially we were told that we had arrived too late for the cream tea but one of the staff kindly said they would honor it as I explained we had not been told prior that it had to be served by a particular time . We didnt receive an upgrade on room but I presumed this would have been done automatically if there had been rooms available, so therefore I didnt ask for one. These aren't complaints as we had a fabulous time, just additional comments as asked for . We will definitely be revisiting"

Overview

The Elms Country House Hotel & Spa is a manor house built in 1710, set in 10 acres of grounds. It's less than an hour's drive from Birmingham, and around 15 minutes' drive from the Wyre Forest Nature Reserve, where you'll find many walking trails and Go Ape, a high-wire treetop challenge (fees apply). Witley Court and Gardens is less than 10 minutes' drive from the hotel, and the West Midland Safari Park and Severn Valley Steam Railway are both less than 30 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's gardens feature a croquet lawn and tennis court. Many of the herbs, vegetables and fruit used in the restaurant are grown in the kitchen garden. Spa facilities include a sauna, a steam room, an ice fountain, a gym and treatment rooms, plus there's an indoor swimming pool and a hydro pool that is half indoors and half outdoors.

Breakfast is served in the Brookes restaurant, while light lunches and afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the Garden Café, which has views over the lawns. The Brookes restaurant holds a two AA Rosettes and offers a more formal dining experience for dinner, with a set menu and an à la carte Best of British menu.

Bedrooms are furnished in a country-house style. Most are in the main house but there are six in the coach-house annex. Wi-Fi is free.

We did not get the room that we specifically booked. It was already in use. This was very disappointing.

Very good value for money in a genuine old hotel as opposed to the aged facade but with a '60s motel hiding behind!

We had a great time, the staff, the hotel, the grounds, all wonderful

The stay itself is excellent value but there are a couple of small things that weren’t great. The cream tea, which we had to ask for wasn’t a cream tea at all. It was 2 scones. No tea. When we asked about the tea part we were told tea only came with an afternoon tea. They also tried to charge for the cream tea £7.50 per person which considering you don’t get a drink is crazy! I really don’t think it should be advertised as a cream tea. Secondly the drinks are very expensive. Not unusual to find this in a hotel but a lime with soda was £3.50! Insanity in my humble opinion. Having said that we would return as the overall experience was excellent.

Lovely room overlooking grounds. Enjoyed the garden, pristine bed and quality linen and towels. Warm bathroom. Friendly, motivated staff and a sleepy black cat on a lounge chair, so sweet.

The only observation I'd make is the gloomy paintwork especially in the reception area. Too much Farrow & Ball matt emulsion for my taste but, I suppose, perhaps in keeping with the period of the house? It didn't detract from out visit though.
