Why We Love This Hotel

  • This 19th-century manor sits in 19 acres of grounds with a private lake
  • The property is on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to Dumbleton and Winchcombe
  • Nearby towns include Stratford-upon-Avon, Tewkesbury and Evesham
  • We visited the hotel, and loved the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning views

Dumbleton Hall Hotel is a Grade II-listed manor house set in 19 acres of private grounds bordered by woodland. The present building sits on the site of the original 16th-century house, and once hosted the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell and the poet John Betjeman, who is reputed to have written three poems here. We visited the property and loved the stunning views of the Vale of Evesham and the surrounding Cotswold countryside.

The ancient market town of Winchcombe, which has quaint shops, pubs and tea rooms, and is on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, is 10 minutes' drive away. The ruins of 13th-century Hailes Abbey, where you can follow an audio tour or visit the museum, are within a 15-minute drive. You can also visit Tewkesbury -- a 20-minute drive away -- to see the medieval buildings and narrow alleyways that surround the Benedictine abbey.

Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon and Batsford Arboretum, a 56-acre botanical garden with one of the largest collections of trees and shrubs in England, are around 30 minutes' drive away. Gloucester, with its 11th-century cathedral, is 35 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Dinner and Sunday lunch are served in The Cedar Tree Restaurant, which has an extensive wine list. Afternoon tea, coffee and bar snacks are available in The Olive Lounge, and drinks are served in The Library Bar and Lounge.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but all have views of the gardens or the Vale of Evesham. Dogs are welcome, but not in the public rooms (fees apply; see policies for details).

Not suitable for Celiacs or people with dairy intolerance as little choice at breakfast Informed hotel prior to arrival about dairy intolerance and requested Almond milk. None available.Only soya milk which was not really suitable for my intolerance. No yoghurt etc available ,so very limited choice unless you wanted a English cooked breakfast. Rooms nothing like pictures on website. Damp patches and wall paper was coming loose. Rather dark Disappointed with room No spare room available so had to make do. Bed was comfortable. Shower ok

The building and grounds are exquisite; perfect for a summer wedding. Our room was very spacious with great views. It was clean with everything you need but a little cooler than we’d have liked and a little outdated . The lounge and bar would benefit from a makeover as it seemed mismatched. The restaurant service was good and the food very good; congratulations to the chef. Local produce, brilliantly executed. Staff efficient and clear.

Our room was clean with a modern bathroom. The evening meals were of a very good standard with good choice and high quality ingredients. The breakfasts were ok but not to the same high standard as the evening meals. Perhaps a range of breads and, quality preserves could be offered. Some staff could benefit from additional training in the dining area. Very dog friendly and beautiful grounds.

Lovely location. Open fires and lovely ambience with lots of original features still in tact from this early Victorian hall..
