"Had a lovely time just getting away from it all. Staff people were universally friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the variety of activities. The swimming pools were very nice and clean. Only three quibbles. We paid extra for a bay view and could barely see the water due to the mangroves. The internet and phone did not work when we arrived. The daily resort fee I thought was too high."
Sprawling across the northern region of Captiva Island, South Seas Island resort “feels as lush as its name suggests” (Fodor’s). Two and a half miles of pristine white-sand beaches hug this 330-acre nature preserve, offering a quiet, exclusive oasis just an hour’s drive from Fort Myers.
Trolley shuttles ensure guests can access the numerous on-site dining outlets and amenities. Accommodations vary across the grounds, from marina-side hotel rooms to quaint cottages, villas and spacious private homes.
Before taking part in the resort’s various on-site activities, head to the seashore to hunt for unique souvenirs on the property’s superb shell-hunting sands. Resident manatees and dolphins can often be spotted splashing in the nearby waters, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more than just shells.
Tee up at the nine-hole golf course, book a treatment at the 4,000-square-foot state-of-the-art spa or take the kids to the family interactive center. Water sports, tennis courts, bikes and a massive pool complex are also available for guests wishing to stay active.

The resort, amenities, and staff were just great. Unfortunately, the red tide has gotten more widespread.
Other Comments
Though no fault of the resort, there was still high levels of “red tide” which was tough on lungs. Unfortunately, it was very difficult to stay on the beach but I was very impressed with the management were very accommodating given the situation! I will definitely give them a try what’s the red tide is gone!

This is a huge resort with every option at your fingertips...2mile beach with all amenities, amazing pool complex with water slides, palm trees everywhere, bar, restaurant and other restaurants all over the resort. There are trolley cars & golf carts to get around and 2marinas with all kinds of services. We stayed in a bay view condo, big and beautifully furnished with screened porch and unexpected views of eagles in and out of their nests.

The staff in entirety were above and beyond in their hospitality and attention. We got a text every day giving us updates and asking if we needed anything. We hope to make this resort a yearly vaca and highly recommend to everyone!

We had a great time. The resort (especially the large pool area which edged up to the ocean) was stunning. Food at resort places was great. Quite spread out property. Villa was perfect. A little pricey.

Had a problem understanding the check in person. Had quite an accent so didn't understand when being told about the facilities. Our safe in our suite was locked to where we couldn't get it open. Called about it but never resolved. The resort store was very expensive. Bought a bottle of wine and the girl put it in a paper bag with handles. The wine was refrigerated, and broke through the bag before I even got back to our room. Crashed on the steps and broke open and shot all over me and my clothes. Not a good idea to put wine in a paper bag with handles. Was out $30.00.

The staff at South Seas is exceptional. From the person handing out towels to the bar tenders at the beach bar, they all go above and beyond expectations. Booking on Travel Zoo was easy and saved a substantial amount of money. The daily resort credit comes right off your bill at the end of the stay.

The resort is huge. You need to take the shuttle to get from one end to the other. Plenty for kids to do. Pools are great. Beach is gorgeous especially at sunset. Foosball, ping pong, darts and other games are scattered throughout the resort. Food at The Point was great. Drinks at Attitudes on Sunset beach are tasty but pricey. S’mores on the beach was a nice treat. Last is Off site Mexican at Captiva Cantina was outstanding.

Less-desirable of the Bayside Villas (1BR/2B) and I still had a nice view. Staff was phenomenal! Water pressure low but, understandably so due to Island's proximity to utility services. Enjoyment increased the longer I stayed. FOUR DAYS just wasn't enough time to thoroughly enjoy the property and its surroundings. (So much to do and see.)

My visit here made me realize just what I have in my own backyard/on the east coast of Florida, close to the beach. Great staff. Clean grounds. The resort was pretty full which made the main pool impossible to find chairs. Wasn't all that it was hyped up to be. Rooms are run down and in desperate need of renovating. Ants in rooms. Pools were very nice. But nice pools can be found in a back yard. Beach was nice but definitely not awesome. (Though we have been to Hawaii, South FL, St. Pete Beach and more so might be a little biased for pristine beaches.) Bottom line, this trip was kind of a waste of money for us. 1 hour drive to get anywhere besides Captive makes you feel like a captured prisoner. Will never be back. Just go to St. Pete Beach or Daytona Beach or South FL if you're in this area. South West FL is a waste of time.

We booked through a 3rd party site with no issues but the Bayside Villa was in desperate need of an update. Upon checking in we discovered the trash had not been removed. The furnishings and bed were comfortable, however the AC needs some work as it would be freezing in the living room and sweltering in the bedroom. The screened lanai was appreciated but the ceiling fan did not work. The kitchen has the basics. I’m sure there are many other units that were nicer but for the price we paid it was fine. The resort has an awesome shuttle service that runs every 15 minutes or so and takes you anywhere in the resort.

South Seas Island Resort is absolutely beautiful BUT please be advised that there are different classes of accommodations. We stayed at the Bayside villas which are old and rundown. We requested renovated villas--which we got, but even with the updates, they are still in rough shape. The Bayside and Tennis villas are at the bottom of the price range--but still expensive. I was disappointed in the rooms but I should have checked it out before booking as the reviews clearly indicate this issue. Housekeeping does a lazy job cleaning just the basics; the light switches, tops of doors, baseboards, cabinet doors, etc. are filthy. I can't imagine 'the elite' tolerating this neglect in the high-end villas but it was the case here. I'll admit I'm particular about cleanliness so maybe it won't bother others.
Other Comments
South Seas should really either put the table set over a rug OR add felt pads to the chair legs--very annoying especially when the room above you is active while you're trying to sleep.

Villas were not equipped for a family of 5, even though they state they can accommodate 6. Kitchen dinnerware was VERY limited, and cooking utensils lacked many necessary items (e.g., cookie sheet). No towels available at the villa pools. Toilets were constantly running. Showers were lacking water pressure and one was totally unusable. Captiva Island is remote. There aren't enough dining options available in the resort. The resort was practically deserted. We enjoy walking, but the resort doesn't have sidewalks along the 3 mile length from the south to the north end of the resort. We were able to walk the beach from end to end and back, but there were no exits along the 2.5 mile length. The TV service was out of the 80's. No high def, no digital (perhaps analog). The weather station wasn't even video. It was a snowy picture with audio.

Other Comments
The rooms or units were very tired and out dated. We actually complained with first room which was particularly bad and had musty smell. I was adamant at check in for them to put us in updated unit as I had read some reviews. They said they were not available. They also said because we booked through travel zoo that they were not flexible but we complained and did get a better yet still tired unit. We also had inadequate house keeping where as they did not change sheets or clean kitchen and left coffee pot with old coffee in it. Because we were at beach there was sand in sheets. WE complained and that aspect improved.

Had a really good time despite it being one of the coldest days since previous winter, brrr since I live nearby here in FL. Ended up golfing which was a nice little executive course with all par 3 holes. Price was ok, except for the golf cart fee, $40 a piece. That was steep. All the staff was gracious and helpful. We ate at Doc Ford's mostly which was good. Pricey breakfast, but had a $25 resort credit which helped. All in all, very nice place with a nice crew of employees. Would def go back when its nice & warm.

The marina side condo was fairly shabby. Broken bed headboard, non- working patio door, sticking interior doors. Tiny bathroom. Paint finish and details were sub-standard. It looked like a 40 year old unit that had marginally been kept up and retrofitted.

I didn't put the term :resort" in my head My fault. No $ needed here....like a cruise ship on dry land. I'm not a fan. Also, as with a cruise, you pay the resort prices and get a nice bill at the end. I need a few more bars and restaurants to choose from personally. A $42 breakfast for two (not incl. tip) (two eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee each) is a bit much.
When we first entered the room the smell of perfumed disinfectant chocked my wife and me. It took literally 6 or so hours to air out the room.

The deal was really good for the resort compared to other rates out there. It's a beautiful property -- good pool for the kids, great beaches.

Make a point to see the sunset every night. The par-3 golf course is great for beginners -- not a lot of water and wide fairways. The pools are really good for kids -- and they are heated! Make sure to rent a bike while you are there -- it's a big resort!

There was a misunderstanding about the room rate and the Desk attendant cleared it up right away with kindness and great results. I think her name is Cerly.

We enjoyed all of the surrounding nature and peacefulness. We saw so many manatees, dolphins, and many gorgeous birds. We had fun riding bikes around the island and the sunset was amazing.

I have traveled to South Seas multiple times, often in groups as I have endorsed the resort to others. Will likely go elsewhere on my future trips to Sanibel/Captiva. My daughter was in a cast and not allowed to use the slides, the main reason we go to that resort. The slide rules are posted in 4 different areas, so initially it was difficult to figure it out even though she used the slides a few times given a long-sleeve UV top she had that some of the attendants missed. Imagine her disappointment that initially she could go and then no more for the rest of our stay. My objection extends to not being given the opportunity to sign a waiver of responsibility for the resort if she was to be hurt. That blind and all or none mentality is unfortunate and self-serving. It’s too bad as otherwise our stays over several years have been positive. As it is, her cast comes off today and it could have been removed a week ago - we did not foresee such stubbornness and please do not aim to spin it as it being for her safety. It was because of your fear of attorneys, plain and simple. Otherwise a waiver would have been allowed. Thank you nonetheless for the positive past stays.

This compound was beautiful, the villa/ building was dated and could use a through cleaning. The room itself was clean but the paint was peeling above the shower, the fan on the lanai needed cleaning, there were cobwebs on the outside top of the door.
We enjoyed our stay however had we not gotten the deal from travel zoo I would have been upset. 1st: i requested an early check in and got to the hotel only to be told our room wasn’t ready at 2pm, she said it would only be 30 minutes but was almost an hour and 30 minutes. 2. On day of check out housekeeping knocked on our door at 9:30am despite the do not disturb sign on the door, we do not have to check out until 11, I was pretty angry about that. 3. We were told it is a cashless/cardless resort however both the ship store and provisions store took cash/card. 4. Everything closes between 9-10. If you would like a drink/coffee after a later dinner you better bring your own. 5. I would suggest if staying in a villa that you stop at a grocery store before serving as EVERYTHING is exhorbantly overpriced at the resort!!! I don’t mind pathing for things however they do t give you much information and then lock you in once you arrive. 6. When I called the night before check out to request we be able to check out at noon not 11, I was told to call back in the morning t see if that was possible, they were not very accommodating. Also each time I called the resort from the time of booking to check out each person who answered the phone was not overly friendly.
Again, we enjoyed Captiva and the resort, had it not been for the excellent travel zoo deal we would not spend the money to go back.
