Why We Love This Hotel
- Excellent location in San Marco, a five-minute walk from St. Mark’s Square
- It has its own private dock, for water taxi trips and drinks on the water
- Wi-Fi is complimentary
- The hotel is small but lavishly finished
Covered in gold and decked out with embossed wallpaper and opulent carved armchairs, this intimate hotel is an exercise in excess on a small scale. There’s no restaurant, but the hotel does offer a breakfast buffet, served at linen-covered tables in a cozy side room overlooking the San Luca Canal.
The reception is manned around the clock and, unusually for a small hotel, there’s also a private dock for water taxi transfers and gondola trips. You can also rent it for private drinks on the water’s edge. Guests can use the Wi-Fi for free, and you’ll find a computer with free printing in the lobby.
Rooms vary in size, starting at a petite 150 square feet and rising to more than 300, but all are traditionally furnished in 18th-century Venetian style, with regal colors, gilt furnishings and full-length windows framed by luxurious drapes. The Junior Suite is the most impressive of the bunch, with a balcony overlooking the canal and its singing gondoliers -- opt for a room to the rear for a quieter night. Classic rooms aren't huge, so it’s worth upgrading to a Superior room for more space.
