Why We Love This Hotel
- Traditional, homely riad near the Saadian Tombs & Bahia Palace
- There’s a rooftop terrace & small, unheated plunge pool
- Breakfast is included
Tucked outside Marrakesh’s medina walls, the homely Riad Calista can be a little hard to find initially. Once you arrive, however, this well-priced property is in a good spot for exploring – the Saadian Tombs and Bahia Palace are within a 20 minute walk, and it is just a bit further to the Jemaa el Fna market square.
Guests are welcomed with mint tea and city maps by helpful staff (French and English is spoken here). Expect traditional Moroccan décor throughout, with white-washed stone walls, shades of ochre and Arabian arches. There’s a rooftop terrace and lounge, with a TV and radio. Downstairs, the unheated plunge pool is blissful after a long day bartering at the souks.
Breakfast is included in the price and features coffee, Moroccan bread, pancakes, croissants, jam and orange juice. Dinner is also available on request and there’s a cocktail bar for a pre-dinner aperitif.
The bedrooms are clean and practical, with twin or double beds. Some are without windows, so make sure you request this if it’s important to you. There is no TV (making it the perfect place to unplug from the world), and the bathroom door is a curtain, which may not suit those of a timid disposition. Wi-Fi is available at an extra charge but free in public areas.
