Brighton is a popular tourist destination, which can push hotel prices up all year round. The ibis Brighton City Centre -- set in the funky North Laine area and a 2-minute walk to the train station -- is a good-value option for this coastal town.
The immediate area is known for its independent boutiques and cafés, but you’re within walking distance of all that Brighton has to offer, including the pier, beach, Pavilion and The Lanes. Further afield, there’s plenty of walking along the Sussex coast -- Beachy Head is less than an hour away -- and medieval history at Arundel Castle, 40 minutes’ drive away.
In the morning, an extensive buffet breakfast is served, including croissants, baguettes, scrambled and boiled eggs, sausages, mushrooms, ham, yoghurt and more. Ibis operates an ‘all-you-can-eat’ policy, and there’s more than enough to go around. The restaurant also serves casual fare throughout the day, although you have a lot of options on your doorstep to explore.
The bedrooms are a good size, with simple décor and wooden floors. Tea and coffee-making facilities and free WiFi come as standard, and some upgraded rooms have views of the sea. Family rooms also have a convertible sofa bed. Bring your own toiletries though – there is only an all-in-one body/face/hair gel in the shower. Rooms overlooking busy Queens Road can be a little noisy. Ask for a room at the back if you’re a light sleeper.
