The award-winning Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace transplants the trendy Buddha Bar Asian-fusion boutique hotel concept to Budapest's elegant Klotild Palace, overlooking the River Danube in downtown Pest. Take in the stylish historic and contemporary ambience, and be within easy walking distance of transport, shopping, restaurants and popular tourist sights.
This unique neo-Baroque building has a fascinating history. Built by distinguished architects Korb & Giergl in 1899, the 4-floor palace was the former residence of Archduke Joseph and Archduchess Klotilde, daughter-in-law of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph. It was nearly destroyed in the 1945 siege of Budapest, and later housed the Hungarian Post Office and the infamous communist-era dollar shops. Nowadays, its location near the famous Váci utca pedestrian shopping street, with its designer shops and charming, romantic squares recalls its late-19th-century lustre.
Walk across the Elisabeth Bridge over the River Danube and head for Gellért Hills on the Buda side of the city. There you can hike up the hill to the iconic fort, Citadella, for spectacular views of Buda, Pest, the Danube and its many bridges. Walk further through the park to visit the city's famous Art Nouveau-style Gellért thermal bath. Reward your exertions with a signature Buddha-Bar cocktail in the glass-roofed Klothild Bar & Lounge on the sixth floor, which has excellent views over the city and occasional old-time piano classics.
Each modern room or larger suite comes equipped with Buddha-Bar's trademark ambient techno/world-music collection, spacious bathrooms with rainfall showers and large bathtubs (in executive rooms and suites), and in-room amenities such as Nespresso machines, climate controls, mood-control lighting, LED TV screens and multimedia connectivity. Pets are welcome (at a surcharge).
